What are the basics for preparing asparagus? Boiling? In a skillet? Can I stick it in the microwave? I have some in the fridge that's going to waste because I don't know how to prepare it.

Since I'm asking, how about brussel sprouts too?

:) Trying to eat those healthy veggies!

I love the roasted asparagus Cathy mentioned, it is good for broccoli too. For the brussel sprouts I like them steamed. Have you seen the steamer that black & decker makes? You set a timer and you get perfectly steamed veggies without having to watch the stove. It is about $20. I use mine 4-5 times a week. You can make rice in it too.

Even easier........ just boil the asparagus in about an inch of water. Snap off the ends and voila. It takes about 5-8 minutes. Stick a fork in it, and take it out when the fork goes through easily.

I just ordered mine online! It makes sense since I eat so many veggies. Thanks so much for the link! How would you cook brown rice on that thing?? Does it hold a lot?

=D

OMG! I wondered about that! Since starting low carb, I've had some days of that happening and I was getting really concerned. But I've been eating asparagus like crazy! LOL

The steamers are nice if you use a lot of burners. I don't usually have much room on my stove to boil water. Plus it is easy to over/under cook when stove top steaming and microwaving kills too many nutrients. I love the set it and forget it ease of the steamer. Whatever works for you though!
