This was posted by MichaelAnn (firebird_mom) in another thread and I wanted to make sure everyone had a good chance to see it.

Thanks for sharing this with us. My DD is home from college and has really missed Baked Beans. She's been very supportive of us and is trying to eat healthy with us but I know she has missed her beans. I'm going to make some tonight!

INGREDIENTS:

* 2 cans white beans
* lean ham or turkey bacon or canadian bacon
* 1 onion, chopped
* 1/4 1/4 c splenda
* 1/4 c sugar-free maple syrup
* 1 T worschestire sauce
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1 cup water
* 1/4 cup sugar free ketchup
* 1/4 cup sugar free BBQ sauce
* 2 tablespoons prepared mustard

DIRECTIONS:

1. Drain and rinse beans. Combine all ingredients in casserole dish.
Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 1.5 hours. Uncover and bake 30 min more.
Stir often or it will stick to the pan.

Its awesome! You know I've posted it over and over on the board and only a few people have seemed to "notice" it. I thought for sure it would be up there with everyone's favorites like Maggie's chili or Taco Junk - I never quite understood why it didn't catch on as a board "standard". Its never gotten any bad reviews, its just that people never bothered to try it I guess!

I fixed it some time ago and it was great!!! We love baked beans and this recipe is really close to my 'pre-SB' recipe. Can't have a BBQ in the south without baked beans!!!

Yum! I just started phase 1 again on Monday. I was falling off the wagon pretty bad and needed to jolt myself back into the SB mindset. I've discovered I have a great will-power. Still have quite a few cravings but I refuse to cave!! Anywho, it's supposed to be 1/4 cup of Splenda correct? Can I have this in Phase 1? Do I count it as a bean serving and a sweet treat?

This recipe is going to be FANTASTIC because I'm attending a barbecue this weekend and was trying to decided what kind of bbq appropriate dish I could bring. Thanks for the post!!!!

Sorry Michael Ann, but we really can't get sugar free - ketchup or BBQ sauce or anything close to that here!

Yes, its 1/4 cup splenda. Its fine in all phases. The "recommended" limit for beans is 1/2 cup per day, so just keep that in mind.

Man, I WISH I could try this. It sounds delicious! I have tried and tried to add in beans but they really do a number on me... even hummus if I eat more than a couple tablespoons. Maybe I'll give it a try when the guest room is free, just in case I need to sleep on the other side of the house :)

Anybody know if Beano *really* works?

I'm going to make these tonight! I don't know why I never tried them before. A few questions though: the recipe just calls for white beans. Is that an actual type of bean, or is there a specific type I should get? Also, should a chop up the turkey bacon and mix it in?

I chop up the turkey bacon and cook it FIRST before putting it in.

I just buy canned beans that say "white beans" - some say "great northern white beans" I think.
