SB friendly Baked Beans ???
| Sun, 07-08-2007 - 5:35pm |
I have a recipe that Cathy gave me for SB friendly baked beans. I LOVE baked beans, and am dying to have some. But, I have finally given up the search for the KC masterpiece sugar free BBQ sauce, or any SF BBQ sauce. I have visited every grocery store, Target, Walmart, etc. and noone has it. Even check when we go visit relatives, still -- no where to be found.
So -- what can I use in place of that? I have the recipe for the homemade BBQ sauce, would that work -- its not quite the same as the store bought kind, maybe add some worchestire (sp?) sauce to it.
Anybody else have any other suggestions -- I would be so happy to have baked beans!
Thanks!
Sue

Hi Sue,
Here is the recipe for South Beach barbecue sauce:
South Beach Barbecue Sauce
Makes about 1 cup
Ingredients:
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon mustard powder
2 teaspoons chopped parsley
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions:
In a resealable container, combine the tomato sauce, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, parsley, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. (Keeps covered in the refrigerator for 1 week.)
Thanks Cathy -- have you tried this in place of "store bought" bbq sauce for baked beans?
If not, I'll give it a try and see how it works.
Sue
No, I haven't tried the recipe.
I've tried the recipe for BBQ sauce. I didn't like it at all :( It's probably worth it to keep looking for the legal brands. I have tried the Jim Beam kind and like it a lot.

Just jumping in here to clarify that there are at least a few bottled bbq sauce brands that fit the guidelines. It takes some time to go thru all the bottles on the store shelves....but look for those that contain 3g or less sugar. They don't have to be sugar-free!
