i have a question about peanut butter. i LOVE LOVE LOVE the stuff and we're allowed it on the SBD. but i've heard so many things about it making u gain weight. i reali just want to maintain now (but phase three seems like too much food for me. i mean im petite and 5' and phase three can ALSO be for someone 6'! it just seems like too much). but anyway, i got scared hearing about how it can make u gain so much. anyone have any experience?

Hi,
Welcome! Yes, you can have peanut butter on all phases of South Beach. However, you should limit nuts to 1 serving per day. If you choose to have peanut butter as your nut serving you are allowed to have 2 tablespoons.

If you are in phase 3 you will need to monitor how much you are able to eat from the "Foods to Enjoy" list and still maintain your goal weight. Some of us have to adhere strictly to the guidelines to maintain. A lot depends on your age, height and activity level.

Hope this helps.

I've had my 1 serving of nuts EVERY single day for over 2.5 years - lost 67lbs and maintained that for 1.5 years. So I personally think as long as you stick to the guidelines on nuts, they won't make you gain. Nuts are a very healthy food - there is more to a food than just the calories. Its all about the nutrition behind the calories.

As for phase 3 - its all about find a personal balance that works for you. I am petite as well (not quite 5'3" and 115lbs) I eat quite a bit I guess - but its all HEALTHY food. So I've maintained just fine on that. I have friends who are extremely overweight and eat a lot less than I do - but everything they do eat is junk. So its not about quantity, its about quality. I have 3 (or 4 or 5) servings of grains per day, 3 fruits, 2 servings dairy, 3 servings of protein, 1 serving nuts, 4.5 cups veggies, 100-150 calories of sweet treats every day.
