Crockpot Cheeseburgers recipe question

I want to try these, but I'm not a big fan of Velvetta. Has anyone subbed any other type of cheese for these? I wasn't sure if it would change the way it cooks or the time etc since Velvetta melts better.

TIA!

I'm not big on Velveeta either and I can practically guarantee you won't like this recipe *unless* you can try a different cheese. I would suggest cooking it without the cheese and then adding some shredded rf cheddar or colby at the end, maybe let it cook another 10-15 minutes to make it melty. Can't hurt to try...

That sounds like a good idea Maggie...that way its "freshly" melted...I will try it that way. I am trying to use my crockpot more and this one sounded like a meal everyone would like and easy enough. Thanks!!

I'd probably add regular cheese at the very last minute, off the heat, and stir just until it's melted. Depending on the cheese, it could separate if you actually cook it. It'll taste OK, it will just look very yucky and have oily patches if that happens.

Enjoy!!

Let me know how this goes -- I've read the recipe a few times, but don't care for velveeta, either.

Thanks!

Thanks for the tips! It's all in the crockpot right now (minus the velveta), hopefully it comes out good...have a 2% colby/cheddar blend I will mix in at the end. If it works out, then DH will be happy...he loves this kind of stuff and it was very easy! I will let all of you non-velveta eaters how it turns out! =)

Ok here's my review for the non velveta version - it was good. I was worried about it, but DH loved it. I added shredded cheese off the heat at the end, 1 cup of it, and just stirred until it melted, served it on WW buns and a side salad. I can see where Velveta makes it creamy , this version reminded me of taco filling, so I'm thinking I can make it again and add some taco seasoning and salsa and use it to top a salad or make a ww burrito. DH would love that too. I can work with this. I think I am starting to like my crockpot.

I don't really care for Velveeta but like it in this recipe. I just don't use as much in the recipe. I love the idea of making the taco filling with this recipe...will definitely try that! Thanks for posting your review!

Maybe I'll try the velveeta one day, I can see where it may be creamier and cheesier than just adding cheese at the end. Another thing I may change next time is to use lean ground beef instead...something about ground turkey sometimes I feel like no matter what it's not seasoned enough.
