My crockpot cheeseburger was dry - help!

I followed the directions to the "T" but it came out dry :(

And, had someone not been home to keep an eye on it, the cheese would have been burnt to the sides of the crockpot! It just so happened that my babysitter was at my house when it was cooking.

The purpose of using the crockpot is to be able to set it before work & viola, come home to dinner! Thank goodness she was here!

What happened? More milk maybe?

I literally only cook mine for 3 or 4 hours on low; I found that using the directions in the recipe caused mine to be dry and overcooked.

I stir the milk & cheese in after it's cooked.

So, I'm wondering if you have to brown the meat anyway before putting in the crockpot, and you add the milk & cheese after its done, then why bother with the crockpot in the first place? Doesn't seem like its being used or needed really. This sounds more like a stove-top kinda recipe.

Brown meat w/peppers, add milk & cheese. Stir until cheese is melted. VIOLA! Dinner!

How big is your crockpot?

Yep - size is the issue. I had this happen with mine. I have a huge 8qt crockpot and I didn't know they were supposed to be 3/4 full, when I made this it barely covered the bottom and the cheese separated and it got all nasty. I redid it in a skillet on the stove and just simmered it for a about 30min and it turned out fine. I don't have a small crock pot, so I've never bothered to try it that way again.

Well, my crockpot is quite big but I did double the recipe. Although I can't remember exactly how full it was, I'd say it was 3/4 full or very close to it.
