Just wondering about others...

I feel like the least adventurous person on this board! I'm learning to try new things though and I've found a lot of new foods to eat. I was just wondering what foods others DON'T like. I can't be the only one out there who's scared of egg plant, asparagus and squash! What new foods have you tried and were surprised to like? I just recently tried guacamole and didn't hate it. I eat more veggies. I didn't know that I could ever like WW bread or pasta. I like sugar free candy!! (That was my happiest success since I don't feel cheated when I don't eat the regular candy.)

Hmmmm... Don't know if I'm quite that adventurous yet. (Or ever!)

In Chinese food, you're probably aware that chicken feet and duck webs are regulars on the menu. blugh!

My family ate a lot of veggies when I was growing up, so I already liked a lot of them. But I tried eggplant a few months ago for the first time, and I liked it! I also REALLY went out on a limb when I tried tofu. I used to make fun of people who ate tofu! But it was decent. I still haven't tried spaghetti squah, but I really want to. I also eat a lot more tomatoes (cooked, not raw) than I used to. I'm just not scared to try a new veggie anymore. I figure, it's a plant, so how bad can it be? :) You just need to figure out how you like things cooked. Roasting just about anything makes it better, so for me, that's a good place to start.

Yeah, my dh tells a story of when he was in grad school and they had an "international dinner party" where everyone was supposed to bring a traditional dish from their country.

I grew up in a traditional Vietnamese family, so I ate a lot of strange stuff.

For me, I have found I don't like bok choy, and like Deb I too *hate* capers! But that's really about it. I'm pretty adventurous.

My suggestion would be to cook your veggies differently. I used to HATE asparagus, but that's because when I had it growing up it was the mushy, tasteless, out-of-a-can crap. Now I LOVE roasted asparagus, and even brussels sprouts. Actually, I find that almost EVERY veggie is best roasted in the oven or grilled. So give that a try!

I am right there with Maggie...don't come near me with any kind of egg other than scrambled. And even then, you don't really need to come near me. I love all veggies even lima beans and brussel sprouts. I don't like liver or pickeled beets. Sushi has really introduced me to some different things. I don't like sea urchin (texture thing) but I do like eel. Last time we went out my husband had a raw quail egg over salmon roe....I almost fell off my chair gagging.

I have to admit that I bought a jar of capers some time ago. It's still unopened in the fridge...I'm afraid to try them!!!

Something I could not stomach while growing up was liver...of any kind. I grew up with a 'clean your plate' Mother, but eventually she starting fixing me a hamburger patty when she served liver & onions for dinner. Guess she got tired of me gagging, etc. I can't even stand the smell of it cooking.

Sushi is something I can't make myself try. Don't know why...I love fish of all kinds. I guess I'm just afraid of the pickling/not cooked aspect of it. Really love escargo, tho!!! Not something I would fix at home, tho.

Glad I read your posts *after* eating lunch! I always thought of myself as a pretty adventurous eater, but some of those things might have gotten the better of me!
