Cooking question with alcohol

We're having some people over today for chili and ice skating.  My favorite chili recipe calls for dark beer.  One of the guys coming is an alcoholic.  He's not very public about it, but did share this information with my DH once.  We always knew that he didn't drink, and one day he told DH his story.  Here's my question...I know the alcohol cooks off when I include the beer, but should I still make this recipe?  I can't really call and ask him, because his wife doesn't know that we know the full story about her husband.

I have plenty of other recipes I could use, but DH really likes this one, if it's okay for me to make.  Thanks!

I would make the chili. As you said the alcohol cooks off and just adds flavor to the recipe. Plus, when you divide the amount of beer by the entire recipe, it's a negligible amount.

If you wanted to remove all guilt, you could use non-alcoholic beer. I've never had one, but if it's the flavor your after....it should work.

Enjoy your guests!

Joy,

Are you making this as a "treat" for yourself? I'm slighlty confused b/c beer isn't allowed on the

No; I'm making this batch at DH's request (it has beer and brown sugar).

Ohhh, ok. Thanks for clarifying for me.

Pre-SBD I would make my chili with dark beer as well. Yummy! It was wishful thinking that maybe something new came out about
