Split pea cooking question
| Fri, 02-08-2008 - 2:57pm |
I wanted to make the crockpot split pea soup for lunch tomorrow (my in-laws are coming). I know, from experience, that this particular soup really needs the 8 full hours of cooking on 'low' to get the split peas nice and soft. I'm guessing that I won't be able to turn the crockpot on until 7:00 tomorrow morning, which would only give me about 5 hours of cooking time. I could cook it on high, but my other question is...if I soak the split peas overnight, will they cook quicker if I leave it on low? I've never cooked this soup on the 'high' setting, and I know some things just taste better when they are slow cooked.
Any suggestions or advice? Thanks!

Joy,
I don't know if you have the time to do this, but that recipe cooks on the stovetop in just one hour.
I had no idea it cooked in only 1 hour on the stovetop!
I use the exact same measurements.
Hi Joy -- I always put mine in the crockpot on high.
Joy, can you post your split pea soup recipe??? I've never fixed this before and I'm trying to find different soup recipes to try.
TIA,
Rebekah

To my knowledge, I've never had split peas. Guess I've been living under a rock...LOL!!!
Yeah, I've been meaning to change my avatar lately. That old one is from a couple of years ago...before SB!!!
