Long, Lean and Green
With spring just around the corner, a seasonal favorite is popping up in the produce section: asparagus. Even better, it falls into the negative calorie food category, meaning it contains fewer calories than the amount your body burns digesting it! A four-spear serving has just 13 calories, yet provides 12 percent of your RDA of vitamin A, 8 percent of vitamin C and 4 percent of potassium, plus 1.4 g protein, 1.2 g fiber and just 2.5 g carbs, with no fat.

Preparation is easy too: Just snap off the tough bottom portion of each spear, rinse with water, and steam until tender but not mushy in a covered skillet with a few tablespoons of water. Or try asparagus tossed into salads, stir-fries, soups and casseroles in place of the usual veg. You just might find that this year, your spring fling looks long, lean and green.

I may have posted about this before, but I
I think you're right, that the production increases every year for a while.
