Pea Soup is Yummy, but crunchy....

I cooked my pea soup for 6 hours.  The soup tastes delicious, but the peas are still a bit crunchy, not pureed like some spoke of.  The only variation I made was to add beef cubes instead of ham.  Is this because I didn't soak the peas first, or do I need to put the batch on the stovetop and cook it for an additional hour or so?

You don't need to soak them first; I find that the leftovers do tend to get softer.

I've never found my pea soup to be crunchy and it's never taken as long as 6 hours! I'm wondering if you used enough water or if you used 'split' peas. When I make it, I add water just to cover the peas (and other ingredients), bring it almost to a boil and then simmer for about an hour.

Hi Ellen,

I've never had crunchy split pea soup either.

This was 6 hours on high in a crockpot.
