Hi. Glad I found this board. I've been having severe discomfort in my chest and have been to the ER 3x in the last month. I had strong palpatations that really scared me. 2 EKGs came back abnormal but the doc chalked that up to any number of things since my blood work came back ok and the symptoms disappeared after a few hours. Went to see a cardiologist and had more blood work(normal) an echo (minor defect-nothing to worry about) and a nuclear stress test-again normal. Now the doc thinks I have GERD (Zantac 2x a day) but..... now I have been getting out of breath quite a bit. Not sure if it is a sign of GERD or I'm just stressing about nothing. I hate to call the doc again. She probably already thinks I'm a wacko. Is being out of breath a sign of heart trouble even though all of my tests came back normal? Thank you.

Hi 30ish00,

Chest discomfort can be a sign of GERD and you can get more information on that at:

In addition, thyroid disorders as well as heart problems can have the symptom of shortness of breath:

I suggest to get an echocardiogram. Its an ultrasound on the heart. Sometimes if you have a failing valve you can be out of breath. Plus ultrasounds tells a lot about your heart.
