Cardiac Caths A Problem for Women?

I am on the Getting Fit in Your 30's board often and a few others. I was hoping to find a board like this.
My mom is scheduled to have a cardiac cath in northern Michigan next Friday. She is concerned. I read a lot about the procedure yesterday. It seems that if proper precautions are taken, it can be safe and useful. Still looks a bit scary to me. I sent her some information so that she and dad might know what they would like to ask the cardiologist and nurses before she goes.
My grandma had one done about 15 years ago. She always experienced some difficulty after the test. I understand that women did, or do. I guess what I was wondering is if anyone has had one recently and how things went, did they do any other procedures during the cath to open blocked areas and what was the prognosis after the procedure?
we are a bit more worried about mom because grandma, her mom, died in March. And my uncle, mom's only brother, died in June after having had a risky but necessary abdominal surgery. Grandma was 84 when she died. She had her first heart attack in her late 60s. Mom is 64. Uncle Bob suffered from heart disease as well, but he carried a lot of extra weight.
Thanks for any information you all might have.
