Hey, Gypsy! It's great to see you!

Answers.com can explain all about Twitter far better than I can. http://www.answers.com/topic/twitter-1

Here's Twitters main page and everyone can join here... http://twitter.com/

Personally, I think it's a lot of fun and it isn't time consuming because the messsages have to be kept short.

Post back and let me know what you think!

In reading about it, it was very confusing to me. I just don't see the purpose; seems like people could waste their whole day. I dunno. I have unlimited text messaging so I use that because I can't hear on the phone with my hearing aids. I stay in touch w/ DH when he has lunch and breaks, and my DD, but they are working so they can't be doing this stuff all day long. I can't see much advantage to having it, myself, for me. I don't need another technology addiction, LOL! :D I participate on numerous discussion boards, email & text, and I don't like being "hooked up" all the time. All that takes up too much of my time, already, ROFL! :D I like to walk my dog, do other things freely and without interruptions. I enjoy my solitude everyday, w/ my Mika dog. I'm sorry, I just wasn't impressed with it's usefulness, at least for me. Maybe I'm missing something??? :O

Hi - I have definitely started to "tweet" on Twitter. It seems to be a huge phenomenon and more and more people are doing this rather than email. Especially the younger generation. I want to stay on top of these trends especially as I have a young daughter .... and businesses are also using Twitter more because it's an effective way to get out messages especially in a recession (much less expensive than advertising!) #tomorrow. My twitter is also @hitechheather.

I guess since I am retired, and my family & I are set up w/ texting, I don't have a need for it. No one IRL that I know uses it. Different tools for different needs & lifestyles, I guess. :D As for advertising, I hate junk advertising in my email and they better not text it or I'll sue 'em, LOL! I do NOT publish my cell #. ONLY for family and trusted friends. No one else. And I don't open email advertising. Just code it junk and have my email program munch & crunch it, LOL! :D

Gypsy, I understand and respect that. Like you say, different strokes for different folks. I think one of the reasons people love Twitter so much is that the messages are free....you simply say what you are and what you are doing on a web site and can limit it to family and friends. Texting on the other hand usually involves $$$ on cell phone bill. I very seldom text anymore since I found Facebook and Twitter - and the messages still feed to my Blackberry and PC at the same time. Of course, I just use the old fashioned phone when I need

Well, if you have to send from a computer, you're still paying, right? Unless one uses their employers' connections. My family don't have desk jobs and so don't use computers during the work day, and their personal cells must be shut off and put away during work hours. I pay a flat data fee of $30/month for my Sidekick, no voice minutes since I can't hear on it, and I have free relay operator programs to make voice calls for me and I type on my Sidekick for voicecalls through relay for the hard of hearing and the deaf when I am away from home. We pay for DSL for our home computer, so "technically" Twitter or Facebook, even iVillage boards, aren't really "free," as we have to pay for access to the internet to access these "free" programs. My Sidekick enables me to call for help, if my car breaks down, text family, even get my home email downloaded. And send email, have AIM, etc., since I can't use payphones or regular telephones. I have to have special captioning telephones at home, just as I have to have captioning for TV show & movies. So I don't see any advantage to Twitter. Sounds like fun for those on a computer most of the day, or having internet access most of the day, to write/respond, and have downloading to a Blackberry, etc., though. ;)

Aw, Gypsy, I do understand that some things are not for all people. Years ago, I would have laughed had anyone said I'd one day have a PC. ;) My SIL hates "gadgets" and she won't use a computer, printer, GPS, iPod,

Exactly! So why pay for both broadband Internet AND texting? I just pay for 1.....broadband and the absolutely minimal cell phone use (no texting). Really reduced my cell phone charges. Skype is so amazing now - the number of users
