Just throwing some thoughts out here... :P

*Overeating heavy meals strains the heart as well as your digestive system. Ever wonder why at Thanksgiving, there are a lot of strokes/heart attack cases in ER's (read that somewhere...)

*Mexican food is very high in fat (bad cholesterol) and sodium. Both stress the heart.

High caffeine drinks and intake can do it, too, I think.

If it happens a lot I would have your doc check things out. Take good care of you! :)

Blessings,

Gypsy

DH & I love Mexican food, too, but now we tend to make it at home more than we eat it out. (Also because of the recession and not being able to afford to eat out much these days...).

The way we do tacos: Use 93% fat free ground beef, and only 1/2 what we used to use, supplementing with 1 can of fat free refried beans, and fresh chopped onions, and adding our own spices. DH still has corn tortillas (small size) fried in canola oil and well patted dry w/ paper towels. I use the Carb Balance whole wheat tortillas (size of fajita-size small tortillas), not fried. Just warmed in microwave, for me. :P I use low fat shredded Mexican cheese mix from Trader Joe's (1/4 c. split between my 2 tortillas), DH uses regular shredded Monterey Jack, and plus I use 1 T. of fat free sour cream for each of the two tortillas, and use only 1/2 cup of the meat/bean mixture for my servings of 2 tortillas (1/4 c. per tortilla). I also use about 1/2 c. lettuce for each tortilla plus 1/4 c. chopped fresh tomatoes, in each tortilla. And I am satisfied with those two servings. :P Along with a cup of fat free milk.

We also make fajitas at home. I use either extra lean round steak or boneless skinless thin chicken breast slices. Add my own fresh garlic, spices, fresh mushrooms (we like them) and 3 colors of fresh cut up peppers (green, red, orange/yellow). Cook it all together. DH uses the small fajita size regular flour tortillas, warmed in microwave. I use the Carb Balance ones I use for tacos. I also use fat free sour cream, 1 T. per tortilla, and I eat 2, just like I do for tacos. Along with my 1 c. of fat free milk. We sometimes have salad along side the fajitas, and I use fat free dressings. ;)

Works pretty well for us, and we eat healthier and still get our "fix" for Mexican food, in a much more heart healthy way. :P
