Hi, first, I apologize if I'm in the wrong board -- I'm not sure if there is a board for this, but I figured this was a great way to start (I've been on a few different ivillage boards over the years)...I have a pacemaker-related question (my parent has AF w/ a medtronics pacemaker and will need a 3rd lead through his neck...trying to gather info and coming up short everywhere...has had PMs for 25 years, but it's the lead through the

Thanks so much...it's been a very flustering week, so I was running out of steam trying to find information. I will chk out all the sites, I truly appreciate it.

My dad has AF and has had multiple PMs, and 2 years ago they had to remove the PM and move it to the other side of his chest due to an infection around one of his leads...his old PM had 3 leads; this new one has just 2. It's more complicated with the pacemaker farther away from the heart, but now the doc said he needs a 3rd lead and the only option (if it is an option) is to go thru his neck. He goes for a scope tomorrow so they can see behind his heart for any clots -- and then we go from there. I have learned that it's possible to live in AF (the pacemaker works in keeping his pulse at a steady 80), but it will shorten his life eventually...he's very active for a 77yo (goes to the gym everyday!) so I'm hoping he stays strong for a long time.

Thanks very much...I've been on about 3-4 different ivillage boards over the last 10 years and it never fails to amaze me in that the support and information is always at the ready.

Thanks again, Sarah

Welcome to Heart Health, Sarah!! And yes, you are on the right board. I don't have any personal experience/knowledge of pacemakers, so I'm unable to be of much help. I have, however, a couple of links you might want to follow where you can find a wealth of information.

Try these and if you should need more info, let me know and I'll help all I can. Please let us know how your parent (Dad?) is doing, okay?

Take good care of YOU!

With Heart Hugs, Geri
