I feel awful giving Salty pills...

After the decongestant drops just made poor Salty's nose run like crazy and she was still breathing through her mouth & refusing to eat/drink, I decided to give her a baby dose of Benadryl Allergy to stop her sneezing/runny nose. It was awful. She foamed at the mouth and drooled so much. I had the same problem after trying to later give her her two antibiotic pills. I absolutely hate doing that to her. She looks so sad & in fear. She's drenched from foam/saliva. I don't think I can do this for 9 more days. I can't get her to eat tuna, canned food, nothing. And she won't touch water at all. I think I have no choice but to take her back to the vet in the morning. (I spoke with the vet a couple times today about her congestion, and later about her foaming at the mouth). I am hoping they can at least get fluids/some nutrition in her and maybe come up with an easier way to administer the antibiotics. I don't have the heart to ever use the nose drops or Benadryl again. I feel terrible.

Thanks for listening.

Just a thought - you can ask the vet if the antibiotic comes in liquid OR ask them if they have a way to compound the pills (using the Flavorx system if they have it there).

Thank you! I will ask her about those options right away. I am leaving now to get her in the vets when they open at 8am. I will leave her with them while I'm at work so they can evaluate & help her. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hugs,

I am thinking of you and let us know what the vet says!I hope they can help her. I know it is a lot harder giving pills to a cat than a dog. You gave her a home and I hope they can help her feel better!

Poor little thing and poor you! I sure hope the vet is about to compound them for you. I think would make it much easier!

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Chris,

I am praying she will get better with the intensive care at the vet's overnight.

Thank you so much for thinking of me & Salty.

Thank you Leslie (((Hugs)))

I just called the vets and they gave her an injection to bring down her fever again, and now are nebulizing (sp?) her to help her breathe before attempting to get her to eat. They will keep her overnight. I am going to stop by after work to see her. I'll let everyone know how she's doing then. I will also ask about her medicine. I like your suggestion. I want to cause her as little stress as possible & that sounds like it would help.

Thank you Tami!

I will definitely check on that & will keep you posted on how she's doing. I'm glad she's getting extra help there today.
