Somehow, they just know......

Well, it was time for bath #2 last night, and I decided this time that the kitchen sink and spray hose might be better than putting her in that big giant bathtub. Last time, I held her while DBF washed, and I thought this time we'd switch. I got the sink ready, while DBF went to get her. He picked her up and brought her over, and as soon as he tried to put her in the sink, she freaked out, twisted around in his arms, and dug her claws into his side. She actually ripped holes in his shirt! Before she had a chance to do anyhting else, I grabbed her and she calmed down almost immediately. I was able to get her in the sink and still enough to start wetting her down with the hose. I decided then that it would probably be better if I held her afterall.

It's so strange - why did she flip out for DBF, but was completely fine with me? I asked him later if, while he was picking her up, he was nervous. He admitted that he had felt a little apprehensive and was not looking forward to it in the slightest.

I think that is proof right there that our cats can sense our emotions. I was calm and relaxed, therefore she was calm and relaxed with me. I just was not afraid of the possibility that she could claw my eyes out! I talked to her, and soothed her, and kept her calm the whole time. DBF says I have a gift. LOL!

It reminded me of the time I went door to door with a friend and her little brother while he was selling chocolates for his hockey team. As we were walking up one driveway, this huge dog came flying around the corner towards us, barking and snarling. My friend and her brother made panicked noises and made to start running, but without even thinking, I told them not to move. As this bundle of barking teeth came at me, I stood my ground, and extended my hand. When he reached me, he sniffed my hand and even let me scratch behind his ears. I wasn't afraid at all!

Perhaps DBF is right. I think I missed my calling.

LOL. My mom's cat (who used to be MY cat before I went away to school), will be 12 this fall and he's never had a bath either. There really is no need to bathe an indoor cat - they are quite good at doing it themselves! The only reason poor Tasha is getting them is to help clear up this #$%&$ ringworm!

You ARE gifted!! I'm glad you could give her her bath after all. :-) These cats are amazing at what they can sense.

Wish I could see a photo of your baby getting her bath...giggle!

LOL! Maybe I will get DBF to take a picture next time! I don't have a digital camera though, so you'll have to wait. In the meantime, I'm sure it is not hard to imagine the look of pure terror, mingled with utter humiliation, in a cat's eyes. Breaks my heart, but it has to be done, unfortunately!
