Salty home from the vet's again....

After spending all night with Salty she still didn't eat or drink. I took her into the vet's this morning and she had a slight temperature, so they gave her another anti-inflamatory shot to bring down the fever and help with her breathing. She weighed 6 pounds. They gave me 3 cans of Hills A/D and a syringe to start force feeding her with. They also gave me a tube of Nutri-Cal to feed her a couple times a day as a supplement. The vet loaned me a nebulizer machine and gave me 6 small syringes with the Gentocin medicine to use with saline in the nebulizer 3 times a day. I'm about to do her first nebulizer treatment. Wish me luck! I ordered a cat ear thermometer online and will receive it on Tuesday. In the meantime it'll just be the digital 10 second read thermometer in the rear. LOL I wonder if Salty will ever forgive me for putting her through this. She growls now when I force things in her mouth, but she never tries to scratch or bite me. I think she's just scared.

Thank you all for everything. I don't know what I'd do without your compassion & support & prayers!

Hugs,

Suzy

I can't thank you enough Leslie. I just finished her first nebulizer treatment at home. It went fairly well. She seems to realize it helps her to breath. She's settling down now for a nap. In a couple hours I'll have the daunting task of trying to force feed her. I'll take her in the bathroom since I'm sure cat food will get sprayed all over the place. LOL The vet gave me her phone and cell number in case of emergency. That makes me feel better. After getting all this experience pilling, force feeding, & nebulizing a kitty, maybe I should go become a vet tech or assistant? ;-) I sure love helping animals...even when it breaks my heart.

I'll let you know how it goes. Enjoy your day!

I would love to be a vet tech too, but there is only one school in the entire province and it is a 5 hour drive from here. That sucks because I'm still very young (25) and still have no clue what to do with my life! If the school was here I'd do it for sure. I can't move up there because DBF and his job (and mine) are here. *sigh*

I sure hope Salty kicks this thing soon. She's been through so much!

(((((hugs)))))

I'm sorry the school is so far away. How frustrating! I know what it's like doing a job you don't enjoy. I'm stuck in Purchasing at the college....I'd much rather be doing something more creative or interesting. I'm always looking. I know I do want to take classes again. I will ask the vet where she'd recommend for vet tech school.

How's Tasha doing? Give her a snuggle for me :-)

I just had a terrible time trying to force feed Salty (or is it Misha now? LOL) in the bathroom. She growled up a storm and fought me at every turn. I did get some food in her, but she sure made a mess! I finally just took her back to her room to relax. I have to do a nebulizer treatment soon. She doesn't seem to mind those as much. I just hold her and hold the mist device a few inches from her nose so she can breath some of the vapors in. She doesn't like the noise the machine makes, though.

I'm tired. Dh will be home in maybe a half hour from work, and he'll no doubt want to go out to eat with me & his best friend Joe. We three often go out to movies. I don't want to be out too long since I want to keep an eye on Salty. She will need to have her 2 pills (such fun!) and another nebulizer treatment. I may also try to force feed her a small portion then so there's something in her system overnight. No relaxing for me this weekend. LOL

Hope you're enjoying your weekend!

Hugs,

Suzy

Thank you so very much Patrick! It's not easy, but I'm hoping that the force feedings & nebulizer treatments will save her life. I am worried that she won't bond with or accept us since she associates us with unpleasant things like force feeding her or giving her pills. I hope she'll realize I'm just trying to help her.

Give lots of snuggles to Sammy & Misha for me :-)

Hugs,

Suzy

My kitten sounded terrible. Like someone with a bad head cold. Had to open her mouth to breathe. Was on amoxicillin for 3 weeks. I took her to the vet several times. Then the vet gave her a steriod shot and tetracycline. By the next morning, she sounded normal. Stayed on this med for 7 days (took her off as soon as we could-can discolor kitten teeth)

She hasn't relapsed yet. I mean you could hear her breathing from across the room. This drug was like a miracle drug. Maybe you could ask about this drug. It did make her have clear drool stuff come out of her mouth when she took it. I'd just wipe it off. Like a baby. donna

I'm in purchasing too!! I hate it so much. It is so tediously boring and mind-numbing. Pages and pages of reports, analysing numbers, busting your butt to fix problems you honestly don't care about. I mean, lots of people love purchasing, but it's just not for me. I need to get out! I have a BA in Geography, which I can't really do much with, other than become a teacher. That would mean more school obviously. I've also thought about doing a veterinary office assistant course... not the same as animal health tech, but at least it would still be working with animals. I dunno.... I've got a big trip coming up in August, so I'm trying not to think about life-altering decisions too much until that's finished. LOL!

How is Salty doing? Poor Tasha got another chlorhexidine bath today - and I am still amazed at how well she behaves for me. I mean, she definitely wants out, don't get me wrong!! But she will put up with it. I'm hoping that she realizes I am trying to help her. I'm sure Salty (Misha?) knows that you are trying to help her too, as much as she doesn't like it!
