I'm going to blow a fuse

Last year we got this wonderful little manx kitten for my husband, because our other two cats don't like him. This cat turned out just they way we hoped, he is a sweet loving lap cat, who only wants to be snuggled. My one female siamese was spraying, she decided she hated my husband, and sprayed everything of his, and every corner of the house. We talked to the vet and had to get rid of her, cause the vet said even if she's fixed, we would have to get rid of the target, can't boot out the husband for the cat. Well, as soon as we got rid of her Bucky, my husb. cat, has taken over spraying, with avengance. He has peed on every square inch of our carpet, the kitchen the entry way, the bathroom sink, anything left on the floor, the dining room table, the fruit bowl, (yes on the fruit, which was on the kitchen counter) and he has even occasionaly sprayed me. Three times, he has sprayed me, directly. Once I woke up in a puddle. Once I was holding him, and once he just walked up and did it. He's hit my husband with it once. We have a baby coming in two months. He's sprayed any baby stuff we have brought in. If someone comes over with a purse or backpack, he'll spray that. Our hosue smells. We can't get him to stop. Its become a habit, so the vet said it probably won't stop. I decided we have to get rid of him, if just for sanitary reasons. We can't have him peeing on the baby, or his bed or any of that. I may have to toss him out the window if that happened. (Joke) I can't get my husband to let him go though...its going to be difficult, but I can't take it. I clean up cat pee more than I'll be changing diapers in a few months. Ok, here's my biggest point, how do I get all the smell out????? Our entire apartment is drenched in cat pee. I spray enzyme cleaner on the spots i find, when i catch him doing it, but our whole hosue stinks. And does anyone know of a no kill shelter in Oregon? I want to make sure he goes to a good home, he is really a good cat. the other main prob with him if we kept him is that he likes to lay on people's faces, and I don't trust him not to do that to the baby. I have to find someplace to take him, cause my husband won't be able to handle being involved. I am going to go crazy. Does anyone have any advice? At least on getting out the smell??

Where did the female siamese cat go if you are now asking about a no-kill shelter?

She went to a no kill shelter, but it took me three months to find one that would take her. they are all full. Apparently, no one ever adopts from them, so they are basically just cat farms. So I had called 8 that I could find in my area and they were all full. Took me forever. I don't have that kind of time this time, the baby is due in two months, and I can't bring in any baby furniture without him peeing on it. And if I shut the door he rips up the carpet.

Hi Dani,

I would recommend posting your situation on the "Think Like a Cat with Pam Johnson-Bennet" board, also on ivillage. Pam is a feline behaviorist with many years experience, who seems to have solutions for just about anything.

In the meantime let me ask, is the male cat neutered? An unneutered male will spray,so it is important that he is neutered. How old is he?

Can someone please educate me as to why pets become an inconvenience when they do something "wrong" - something that usually can be corrected?

Hi!

Hate to say it, but two words, "Disposable Society". Look at all the stuff we throw away. And really, a cat? It's not like a person right? No feelings, no thought, it's JUST an animal. Why should I inconvenience myself for an animal? It's not like it's important, right? And it's EVER so much easier to throw something out than fix it.

I'd like to give ya props on putting up with the peeing, but really, my babies do it on occasion, when they're mad. Usually in the bathtub, which for cats, is VERY polite. However, if they started peeing on everything, my FIRST thought wouldn't be "Let's get rid of it!", it would be "When can the vet see me?"

You are so right, it does seem that we live in a "throw away" society...

Hello everyone. I am new to the board and I just happened to stumble across this thread. I have a wonderful (if sometimes psychotic) one year old cat named Maggie. She is the type of cat that not everyone can love. She is somewhat moody, possesive and kurt. She is also playful, caring and a delight to be around. Maybe she's a little too much like her owner or maybe I'm too much like my cat. I can't imagine not having Maggie around.

However, to be fair, I understand dani_cherie's predicament. Though I don't have children, if I did I would not hesitate to choose the health and well being of my child over keeping a pet. I would simply have to find Maggie, as much as I love her, a new, loving home. It's a choice I hope I never have to make, but, I am confident that if no compromise to the situation could be found, I would make the choice to find Maggie a more suitable home. That I would do that does not mean that I think of my cat or any animal as a "throw away" or "disposable" toy to be tossed aside when it becomes "inconvenient." It means that I would want what's best for Maggie and my family.

Just my two cents.

Cheers everyone,

oleander

hi. i just had to add my 2 cents. i too was also wondering if the cats had been fixed. if so, i would take them to the vet in case they had a uti or some kind of other infection. maybe its something physical.

i think that a lot of posters here and i agree on one thing. our cats are our babies. i personally don't have any children of my own but my cat daisy i consider to be my child. when they get sick i take them to the vets. i love animals and never think of my own as pets. to me, daisy's not a posession but a member of my family. g forbid but if my house ever caught on fire i would grab daisy. i love her that much. she's my baby.
