I am so glad you decided to delurk Dawn! I would try daily brushings and also try switching to a premuim food, one that has chicken fat in it. The vitamin E oil will also help.

Welcome Dawn! I'm so glad you stopped by :-)

Your Mavis sounds so beautiful! I hope you can post a photo sometime of her. I'm not sure what she'd like for a present.....you could try anything from catnip filled toys, to a kitty condo, or one of those water fountain bowls for cats (mine love theirs!).

My Patches also has flakey skin sometimes. She's on a premium vet formula (Science Diet w/d) for weight loss. Maybe there's so little fat that it causes her dry skin? I think we should both try the vitamin e. Does anyone know if a 400 IU capsule is too much per day? (That's the only kind I have at the moment).

Let us know how Mavis does with the brushing & supplementation :-)

Hi!

It's nice to meet a fellow lurker! I lurk frequently! Anyhoo, one of ours has the same problem. We tried darn near everything. Even took her to the vet because a friend told me she could be diabetic - she's not. So, vet suggested a bath every now and again. (bath + cat = RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!) We now have some stuff that's a foam. You rub in & wipe out with a towel. She's very tolerant of this and it's wiped out the dandruff & has also cut down on shedding. We only do it about once a month, but it seems to be doing the job.

As for cat toys, the favorite in our house is feathers w/bells. Although I have 1 who likes to fetch, we use the 25 cent bouncy balls from gum ball machines!

I wouldn't mind knowing the name of that foam you use either.

Thanks all for your advice. Mavis just loves to be brushed. I will start doing that daily as she is a medium haired cat. She
