My cats and the new ceiling fans

I had ceiling fans installed in the bedroom and living room this past Monday. I left them on while I went out for a couple of hours and came back to find all 4 cats hiding. Figured it had to be the fans and turned them off immediately. Haven't used them at all since, but it is Sat. and 2 cats are still freaked out. Jasmine, a former semi-feral, is hiding under the bed. I'm not sure if she comes out to eat while I'm sleeping or away. Kira, my sweet lap kitty who is a high-strung Tortie, cries and cries but refuses to come out of the basement. I have brought water down to her. My question is, should I bring food to them where they are, or leave it in its usual place to establish a sense of normalcy? I am concerned that they may be too afraid to go into the other room to eat. (one in which their is no fan, but they have to pass through a room that has one). Again, the fans have not been turned on since Monday! Help!!!

Thanks!

It sounds like they were all pretty afraid of the fan. We had another poster with this problem a while ago. I guess cats think it could be a hawk or eagle and are afraid of it. Hopefully with time your two will get used to it. Here is the link to the messages that deal with this problem. Please let us know how it goes!

I think you should take each kitty and hold them real close to you then turn on the fan so they can see they are nothing to be scared of.

I wouldn't move their food. When they're hungry, they'll venture out from their hiding places.

Pretty soon, they'll be like my Tillie ... sprawled belly up under the fan enjoying the breeze on her tummy!

Good luck!
