Cat and kitten won't get along...

I don't know what to do. It's only been 6 days, but my cat and new kitten aren't bonding yet. They've been introduced. We supervise them in the living room a couple of times a day, and there is a lot of hissing and spitting from my resident cat. The kitten will creep up to her and sort of hiss and arch her back, but she hasn't provoked anything. Tonight, my kitten was playing across the room and our cat jumped down and chased her behind the chair growling and hissing. I couldn't see if she swatted at her or not. We had to chase our cat from behind the chair and pick up the poor kitten, who was crouched down behind the chair.

There doesn't seem to be any injury to either cat, and I didn't see blood. We put the cat outside, and then put the kitten in the cage in the kitchen before letting our cat back in.

I don't know what to do. I want to keep this kitten. I love my cat to death. My parents aren't happy that they're not getting along. They won't let me keep her if they don't. It's going to break my heart to give her away after I've wanted her for so long.

What should I do? Should I keep them separated for awhile? But if I do, and I bring the kitten out again, our cat will freak out. Does this take a lot of time? I just want them to get along! I don't know what to do. We give our cats lots of attention and she knows she is the Queen of the house.

I'm just so upset over this. I've been crying b/c I just want them to get along. What can I do?

It does taKE time and I hope your parents will understand that. Like said, keep seperated but where they can see and smell each other and do not leave them alone together as the kitten could get hurt

Sometimes it takes awhile for cats to get used to each other.

Have your cats ever been injured when introducing them? I'm so afraid that my cat will hurt the kitten. We've just been putting them together in the living room with us for a few minutes at a time. Our cat hisses, our kitten is just curious about her and will kind of inch forward until my cat looks like she's about to lunge and scratch her eyeballs out, and then we have to separate them. It's just so stressful. I want them to get along!

When our cat wants to roam around the house, we just close up the kitten in her cage in the kitchen. Our cat can still hiss and scratch at her while she's in it, but do you think she can hurt her when she is locked up like that?

I just don't want the kitten injured, and I don't want my cat to have a change in personality b/c of this situation. Have all of your cat introductions ended on a positive note in the end?

I think as long as the kitten is in a carrier your cat can't hurt her. If they are left alone the kitten may get hurt.
