My kitty - Handsome is about 7 1/2 months old. He was neutered at 6 months. Last night my husband and I were playing with handsome. He was hiding under a box and then trying to get us with his paw from underneath it. Very funny. ANyways, I sudden smelled something pretty foul. I was like did he pop, or pee or fart? I picked him up and his butt smelled just like what I was smelling and then when I put him down I noticed my arm was a bit damp from being under him. My arm too smelled like what ever it was. The smell was not like poop but like butt smell - its hard to explain. What is it and is something wrong? Did he spray? Why? And I thought he wouldn't spray after his neutering. Do I need to call the vet? I am very concerned. HELP!!!!!

IT PROBABLY WAS HIS ANAL GLANDS THEY SOMETIME GET SO FULL THAT THEY WELL RELEASE A LITTLE FLUID AND IT DOSE SMELL VERY BAD. IF THIS KEEP UP YOU MAY HAVE TO TAKE BACK TO THE VET AND HAVE THEM EMPTYED IT CAN BECOME PAINFUL TO THE CAT AND IT SMELLS BAD. JOANN

Maibrat is right, it's just fluid from his anal glands and it does smell pretty bad.

There truly is nothing like that smell...Don't be alarmed though-just get out the air freshener!

Cats (and dogs) typically release this noxious stuff more slowly with normal litter box visits. There are some foods out there that help with the litter box visits-I've had success (excuse me-my CATS have had success...lol) with iams hairball formula. I started them on the hairball because I have 3 long haired kitties who like to share bathing-thus-share plenty of the long hair! It was a nice side benefit to have!
