Now our Thomie Girl has eye problems...
| Mon, 07-05-2004 - 5:09pm |
We had to take her into a different vet because our vet's office was closed today. Her eye is red & inflamed & tearing. This vet thought it was conjunctivitis. We are supposed to give her eye drops 3 times a day for a week. It may be from a virus Misha gave her....but it's hard to tell. I will call my vet once she's back for her opinion. Thomie is stressed & has licked all the fur off her belly. We had no idea. Poor thing. It didn't help matters that this vet today layed on the guilt that I shouldn't get more cats because this is what happens.....and what a big deal it is that they are all female??? I wasn't aware this would be a problem. Maybe it's just her opinion.
I will talk to my vet hopefully tomorrow if she's back, and see if Misha needs to remain isolated again. We'll have to give Thomie some TLC and hope she calms down. She's the "loner" of all our cats.
I hope our other cats remain healthy. Sorry I don't have better news.
Hugs,
Suzy

oh suzy... just when things were looking good for misha, now another furbaby gets sick.
I am not sure if Misha could be contageous. I didn't think so after 3 weeks and after being told I could let her out by my vet. I can't wait to check with my vet tomorrow. The other vet's office was not very nice. The receptionist told me the vet would call me today since I wanted to know if the drops should go in one or both eyes, and if it was ok for Thomie to be around the other cats. The vet never called. It sure makes me appreciate my own vet after these experiences. The vet we saw today claimed it was a problem to have all females since they'd stress over being "queen" or top cat. They are all spayed, so I am not convinced it should be an issue. I think a male cat would have stressed Thomie just as much. She's naturally a high-strung kitty. We have Misha back in her room right now and we have Thomie here trying to give her attention and calm her down. Her poor eye is still soar & draining.
I wish I didn't have to work tomorrow. I will let you know what my own vet says when I call her.
I hope your babies are doing well!
Hugs,
Suzy
Sorry to hear about Thomie Girl!
I will continue to pray Badness & Scrappy will accept Tucker (which it sounds like they now are!) and that they will all stay healthy. :-)
Hugs,
Suzy
Oh dear. Poor Thomie and poor Suzy.
Thank you for your words of wisdom Leslie! You made me feel better. I don't know what that vet's problem was. You're absolutely right....cats in the wild live in a pride. My females are all spayed, so why would there be a worse issue with a female vs a male, other than the to be expected temporary stress of getting used to a new kitty? I will just disregard what she'd said. My own (much missed) vet never says anything like that.
My vet won't be back in her office until tomorrow...sigh. Today I called and there was another vet there for today. That vet said I should keep Thomie isolated since the vet who examined her felt she had a virus which could be contageous. Thomie was downstairs with Patches & Boots all day, but I brought her upstairs the minute I got home and now she's in our bedroom....not very happy. LOL Her eyes are real watery. When dh gets home we are putting in more drops.
Misha slept with us last night, but during the day and right now I have her back in her isolation room...she escaped when I was getting her fresh water and explored the basement for 15 minutes. She isn't going to accept going back into isolation lightly....giggle! I'll check with our vet to see if Misha could still be contageous or not. I'm not 100% sure she made Thomie sick. Thomie gets stressed and could have weakened her immune system on her own.....it's hard to tell. Boots & Patches are so far ok. Maybe it's best to keep them away from both Thomie & Misha till they're both back to 100%. Misha's still got noisy breathing, so I'll have her checked this week again. Her eyes look a lot less congested though, so at least some improvement over last week.
I'm taking tomorrow afternoon off work since dh is going to a neurologist to see about his herniated disc pain. The cortisone shots didn't help him, unfortunately. After his appointment I may take Thomie and/or Misha to our (more trusted) vet is she thinks it's a good idea. That vet I had to go to yesterday wasn't as good with cats. She held Thomie in a "death grip" on the scruff of her neck the whole time. Thomie may be anti-social with people she doesn't know, but she's never bitten or hurt anyone. She would tend to just run & hide. My vet never has a problem with her.
How's Trouble's eye doing? I'm sure you know all about using eye drops. ;-) We have to wrap Thomie up in a towel and do the drops that way. Then I give her some food as a reward.
Thanks for listening to me ramble. These furkids really keep me hopping! LOL
Have a great night!
Suzy
Well, I'm glad you feel better about adopting Misha.
Hugs to you & Scooby!
Suzy
Your Scamp sounds a lot like Thomie. Loving to us, but fearful of others.
I'm so glad Trouble's eye is slowly getting better. Twice a day drops sure beat every hour! LOL My goodness. Thomie is stuck with 3 times a day for now. I sure hope they are helping. At the moment her eyes are draining so much....I feel so bad for her.
I will be sure to let you know what we find out on the girls tomorrow from our vet. Hopefully dh will find out something positive on his back situation too. :-)
Sweet Dreams!
Suzy
