cat question - sorry, long

Hi everyone,

I have a bit of a cat issue that I wanted to get someone else's opinion on. My sister has 2 cats and 2 dogs, and has had all of them for roughly 7 years. Last year she had a child who ended up being allergic to the cats, so I took them for her(at the time we lived about 6 hours away from each other). I had them for about 6 months when for job reasons my boyfriend and I ended up moving to the same town as my sister. She let us live with her for a few months until we could get a place of our own, and it turns out that her son does great with thm now and is no longer allergic (which I hear is pretty common in young children). Here is where the delima comes in. The cats and dogs love each other and get along great. The problem is that before I moved in with my sister, we both decided that the cats would move with me when I moved out. Well now we've moved out and my sister wants to keep them. I'm against this for a few reasons. For one, her and her husband work a lot, so when they are home the animals get almost no attention. They also don't take care of the litter box, and aren't very watchful over their food and water. I wouldn't think twice about taking them, but I hate to separate them from their dog friends again...they really love to be together. And the one cat loves to go outside, which he can do where he's at now because they have a fenced in backyard which he stays in. Plus the dogs are really depressed right now because when I lived there they were hardly kenneled and got lots of attention and now get almost none, and I'm worried that if I take the cats they'll get even more depressed. I'm really just not sure what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe getting an outsiders opinion with shed some light for us. Thanks in advance for any help!

Well maybe you should leave them for the dogs sake and will you be living close when you move out so you can watch their care?

Thanks for the welcome. I have thought many times that I wish I could take the cats and the dogs because I have so much more time then their owners. I'm a huge animal lover so it is very hard to watch these animals not getting much luvin from their "parents". We have already moved out but I haven't taken the cats yet. I live about 1/2 hour away from my sister now, so I could go over a few days a week. I guess I wanted the cats for selfish reasons too; we really bonded in the 6 months we were together and I just miss them so much. No little furballs to curl up on the couch with anymore. I suppose I probably should just leave them where they are (it would make my boyfriend happy ;o). I'll let you know if I change my mind. Thanks for the advice!
