MIL and the kitten

Oh, my MIL makes me insane!!!!
This is the second time she has done something like this.
The woman got a kitten from a friend at work. She got this very cute kitten last Thursday, but hasn't taken it to the vet for its shots or anything. The main problem is that MIL is allergic to cats and doesn't do well with pets in general. The other issue is that MIL will hear of someone getting a pet and then find one herself. (When DH and I got our first cat, MIL found someone giving away a cocker spaniel puppy. After about a month of mostly living in the garage and no training, MIL ended up giving it to one of my SILs) This time around, DH thinks that he may have mentioned that his Dad has two new kittens in the house. (MIL and FIL were involved in a very icky divorce about 9 years ago, but MIL is still weird about it.) So when we stopped by Sunday to visit, here was this adorable kitten. But since MIL hadn't bothered to get its shots, I wasn't going to take her home to our cat and dog. Besides, I don't think we can take on another pet and be financially responsible for all of them.
Now the fear is that MIL assumed that we would take the cutie kitty and she would be off the hook. Since we didn't, we are afraid that she will just let it loose into the neighborhood. I probably will see about going over to the house this week and take the kitty up to the local rescue league.
SIGH, this woman drives me to drink. She likes animals for short periods, but can not be responsible to care for them properly for more than a day or two. (Heck, I don't even ask her to stop our house to feed the cat when we are out of town because she will decide that she doesn't need to worry about it if she feed the cat the day before.)
Just needed to vent, but can't vent too much to DH since it may look like I am attacking her. {Stepping off soapbox}

Thank you. That made me laugh. Maybe just a smack. She is not a terrible woman, but she just has severe lapses of judgement. Perhaps a smack to the head may rattle something around.
I try hard not to make judgement calls on her since she is DH's mom and there are some only son/mother issues there. (Apron strings cut to an extent, but still some issues since DH was the only sibling who helped her on a daily basis with the divorce.) But when we were driving home he was fuming about his mother and her general lack of common sense. I just let him go and once in a while agreed that he had a point. I tried not to add on to his list of grievances, even though I could have easily. (Jealous of my mother and my relationship, mad at me "making" DH move away from her, bitter about everything, you get the point...)
The problem is that she KNOWS that having a pet is a lifetime committement. She just chooses to think that someone else will come through and clean up after her. (Long history of her doing stuff and her exH, or later DH and his sisters, bailing her out.) She just doesn't think. SIGH.
I don't have a connection to any of my circles needing a kitten, but the rescue league is pretty good and she is small enough to still be very cute and big enough to start holding her own. (I'm thinking about 4-5 months old.)
