Misha -n- Thomie Update....

Yippee! I FINALLY got to speak with my vet on the phone today. I told her what the other vet had said about not adopting too many cats & not adopting females, etc. She agreed with me (& you) that it was the right decision to rescue Misha and that her being female doesn't make any difference in a household with all spayed cats. She said they'll accept her with time. I was happy that she also disagreed with the other vet regarding Thomie's situation. She said Misha should not have been blamed for Thomie's eye infection. Thomie wouldn't have had it that fast after just "meeting" Misha on Saturday. She could very well have gotten it due to stress. She said there are a whole lot of kitty colds going around and I could bring the virus in on my clothing for all we know. These things just happen & she said the eye drops I'm using are fine and I shouldn't need to bring Thomie in to see her unless she gets worse. (So far her eyes look a tiny bit better & she has no temp). She said I did not need to keep Thomie isolated (like we did last night) because the other cats have already been exposed to whatever she has, and they don't need the added stress of keeping some of the cats isolated. She said Misha did not need to be isolated, either, and that she shouldn't be contageous after all this time and after the meds she took. I will take Misha in on Friday for a check-up to see why her breathing is still congested. The vet said it's probably too soon to give her the rabies & other shots since she had a temp of 103 last night. She's not quite over this bug.

The good news is Boots & Patches are so far still healthy. They tend to run from Misha (or hiss & then run), but I just give them lots of attention to help ease the stress.

Dh is probably going to get surgery to correct his herniated disc. If his boss lets him, he's going to have it done a week from Friday. I will have to take time (unpaid) off work to help him for a week or so after that. I used up all my sick & vacation time caring for my parents earlier this year. I feel like I'm in the wrong profession....I should be a nurse/caretaker professionally since I've gotten all this experience this year....giggle!

I hope you are all having a good day today. I love reading about the funny exploits of your furbabies!

Take care & talk to you soon!

It's so strange how some doctors/vets have such different opinions about so many things. Jusy goes to prove that, sadly, much of what they say is no better than an educated guess! Anyway, I'm glad to hear that Thomie's eye is looking better.

Good luck to your DH with the surgery. A good friend of my DBF had back surgery last February, and he was starting to do better, but now his dr has discovered another problem about 5 discs up from the original problem! He may need another surgery. The problem is, here in Canada, the waiting lists for surgery are months long. The poor guy will have been off work a year this August. His wife is also home on disability due to a rare disease. They are both only 35! Some people just seem to get a really raw deal in life sometimes.

At least the surgery fixed the original problem (which I believe was a collapsed disc). The first 48 hours after the surgery will unfortunately be hell, but your DH should start to steadily feel better after that.

Well my Misha is sleeping soundly now and the other girls are in the other room sleeping also. I will have to put the drops in Thomie's eyes soon and then try to get some sleep.

I am so sorry to hear about your friends. How frustrating that he may need more back surgery! I remember how bad those waiting lists were when I lived in Britain. I never had to be on one, but several people I knew did, and that's a long time to wait when you're in pain. I pray they'll be ok and that he'll be able to get back to work before too long.

Give Tasha a snuggle for me....

Sweet Dreams!

((((Chris)))) I am so sorry about your chronic back pain. I do hope you'll find a permanent solution before long. I was told to check out spine-health.com to do some research by a friend who's dh just had surgery. I will be sure to let you know if it helps dh. His boss wants him to wait until Aug 2 to get surgery so he can help during the final sale of one of their electronics stores that's being closed. Dh could have had surgery in just 9 days. I'm frustrated that because of his job he's being forced to suffer over 3 more weeks.

Thanks for listening to me ramble. It helps to have such supportive, great friends here like you!

Good evening Leslie! I find it so funny about that other vet I saw...she supposedly is an animal behavior expert...ha! I think she needs a refresher course. LOL

Misha is indeed outgoing....she went right up and used Thomie's litterbox right in front of her. Thomie didn't hiss or anything, so hopefully she's coming around.

Have a wonderful night. I'm looking forward to some sleep after I give Thomie her drops.

((((Hugs))))
