Ninja needs a Collar!

K, just moved to a town where they have a bi-law requiring all outdoor cats to wear a collar with an ID tag...

Thing about my boy ninja is, he wants nothing to do with wearing a collar. To the point where it almost seems like hell claw his own head off in order to remove it...

My question is... is it even POSSIBLE to train a cat to not dispise his collar???

any suggestions and/or feedback would be great...

I think that's crazy. My cat Thomie refuses to wear a collar. She will totally freak out and in desperation to get it off she'll get it half in her mouth & start foaming at the mouth.,...it's awful. We took the collars off Boots & Patches recently because we noticed (too late) that the collars had caused permanent hair loss around their necks. My newest (Misha) does not wear one. All our cats have microchips in the event they get out they can be scanned by a vet or humane society to identify who they are. I would think the laws would allow microchiping a cat if they can't tolerate a collar? I would check on that if I were you. I would also suggest not letting any cat be an outdoor cat in any event, because outdoor cats have much shorter lives on average due to increased risk of disease, injury, and death. It's not safe out there for our beloved furbabies. (I'll get off my soapbox now. LOL)

I do not know if it's possible to train a cat to tolerate a collar if they hate them that much. Maybe someone else here can help with that subject. I know in the case of our cat Thomie, especially, it would never be possible.

Hope this helps. Good luck with Ninja! :-)

You are very welcome. Let us know how the training goes!

My cats are weird...only "piggy" Patches likes kitty treats. All the others just sniff and walk away. Go figure!

Are you feeding them the hairball ones? Thank God for them!!! They're the only hairball treats my cat will get near! She scarfs them up like we're sitting there trying to take them away! My husband gives them to her when he gets home from work and then when I get home, she pretends like she hasn't gotten them yet.....the little stinker! They seem to be working quite well with her as far as hairballs too. Thank you Whiskas!!!!!

you see, normally ninja cares nothing for treats...

BUT

these whiskas things have become an obsession with the little bastard, ill give both cats an equal amount, hell scarff his down like its the last food on earth, then go hoard in on charlottes party (wich is just MEAN cuz hes so much stronger than her)

as far as hairball ones go... i didnt know temptations had a hairball variety...

They have them where I live (S Indiana). It may be a new thing though. I haven't seen them before.
