I have a cat who is about 15 or 16 weeks old. We recently took him to the vet for itchy skin, after we found out the mom from his litter had mites. We treated him for mites ourselves with the dip and ear drops. It helped a little. We got him kitty anti itch wipes from the pet store. Only helped a little too. We took him to the vet and the Dr said he didn't see any mites on our kitty. He took skin samples and tested them. He said the cat may have allergies or just sensitive skin. The dr gave him an anti itch shot and some antibiotics. They helped for a while~ He is very itchy and always leaves beheind dandruff and dry skin where he lays down. We're thinking that this may be causing us to itch too. We try to vacuum often, but it doesn't matter. I have little red itchy bumps all over my tummy, and my sister recently came over, and she has them ALL OVER! What the heck is wrong with my cat????!

I also recently gave him a bath with hypo allergenic cat and dog shampoo. It is supposed to have anti itch properties. I hope it helps some.

Did the vet test for Ringworm? This is a skin fungus which causes red bumps and hair loss. It IS contageous to humans and therefore should definitely be checked out. Sometimes it can take up to 21 days for it to show up in a fur culture. My Tasha has been battling this stuff for 6 months, but fortunately my boyfriend nor myself has caught it. It is the same fungus that causes Athlete's Foot in humans.

A kitten I adopted came with ear mites and ringworm. Ringworm signs were loss of hair and that was it. I got one ringworm spot (round like ring) on my stomach. My other cats didn't get it and they groomed the kitten. Vet missed diagnosing it first visit. Treatment was cream and 1 pill every 10 days for 4 treatments. Kitten didn't have flaky skin. donna

Thanks everyone for your advice. I am pretty sure my kitty doesn't have Ringworm. Isn't the rash a human would get from ringworm a circle looking thing on the skin? Well, my symptoms are TINY red bumps.. that itch. Usually happens on mine and my husband's stomach , chest and back. Not even big enough to be flea bites. My cat also doesn't have fleas. He is an indoor cat too, so maybe it is just allergies. How can I help his itching problem? Are there actually such things as CAT LOTIONS???? *=) He sure needs it! (he has white ashy and scaly skin on his kitty elbows, the bottom of his paws (under the foot pads) and , on the top of his head. He even scratches his little nose so much it turns red. I am thinking of filing his claws down a little too.. just enough to dull them so he can't do so much damage to himself... Is this a good idea??

Thare is one product available here in Canada that comes in a black spray bottle. It is pure Tea Tree Oil mixed with water. It is by Beverly Sassoon and it is designed specifically for pets' skin irritations caused by allergies, insects, minor wounds, etc. I bought it at my local pet store. It is manufactured in the US so certainly you can buy it there as well.

As a side note, Tea Tree Oil supposedly has anti-fungal properties, so I've been using it on Tasha's ringworm and it *appears* to be going away (fingers crossed!!!)
