Vomiting Cat - Sound Familiar??

Hi there,

I am a regular on the Nov. Expecting board and this is my first time posting to this board, so forgive me if I am hitting on an overly-redudant topic.

I have a 15 pound, 13-year old tabby who has been healthy for the 9 years I have had him (he was 23 pounds when I first got him and has since fluctuated between 15 and 18 pounds). He has the very occasional hairball episode that ends about as quickly as it starts without any problems.

Two weeks ago, he started vomiting and was going through a rather nasty hairball spell and eventually some blood started coming up as well. After confirming that is was him that was doing this (I have another cat), I took him to the vet. He was put on Laxatone for the hairballs and Pepcid AC to help with the stomach acid, which was causing the blood in his vomit.

This seemed to help with the hairballs, but then for the past four days he got into the routine where he would vomit about 10 hours after he was fed (he is fed twice a day). Then the last two days, blood reappeared. I took him to the vet again and she took x-rays to rule out a partial obstruction and there was none. They also took blood and will come back with the results today or tomorrow. He has been decreased from the Laxatone to a maintenance level, still on the Pepcid and is now on something to give him to coat his stomach. I have also began switching him to "sensitive stomach" food last night. We'll see how it goes from there.

The good news is he is still very interested in eating and my husband has not noticed any changes in the litter box. His demeanor has not really changed either. However, he is still my baby and I worry greatly about him (my husband calls him "Mama's Big Boy").

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

It sounds as though you are on the right track and hopefully the tests from the blood will be ok. Let us know what happens and we will pray for the best news!!!!
