Soft Paws

Hello all! I'm going to be getting a new kitten soon, and I really want to try to use Soft Paws. I've read the testimonials on the soft paws web site, but I'd rather hear from "real people" who've had positive (or negative!) experiences with them.

How hard are they to get a cat used to? The web site says a cat may lick her paws and remove them quickly until she's used to having them on... do I need to take a few days off work to monitor how she's coping with them? Or, if I start on a Saturday, will the two weekend days be enough to make sure she's adjusting?

Thanks in advance for any input you can offer!

Thanks for the advice -- I posted the same question on the products board!

I'm not sure about the kitten I'm going to be getting, since I've just started the process of looking. I have a new apartment with nice woodwork trim, and have not had a pet there yet. When my old kitty was alive, she destroyed the wood trim in our old apartment with her claws. (I could never get her to use a scratching post!) I asked my new landlord about a cat, and she gave me the OK if I declawed. I convinced her to allow me to get one without having to declaw, using softpaws instead. But I need to make sure(before I get a new kitty) that the softpaws option will work, or my landlord will kill me.

Looking forward to see how it works and what others say as I have never used them either

Hi there, and congratulations on the soon-to-be new kitty, and the excellent work with the landlord! I put Soft Paws on one of my cats (the only one who scratches) because we wanted to take him camping and didn't want him ripping the screens in the camper. They work like a charm! For around $20.00 you get -40- nail tips, which will last a while! They do not bother my cat at all. He is a year old and very rambunctious, but I simply clipped the sharp tips off of his nails (as I always do) and then glued them on. You will have to make sure your kitten will let you "play" with his/her feet, but other than that they are a piece of cake.

As far as the scratching post issue, I just use a little catnip whenever mine seem to not be using them as much, and it renews their interest. It doesn't do much for tiny kittens, but works great when they're a little older. I have six cats ranging in age from 1 year to 14 years, and my furniture is not destroyed, but the scratching posts are!

Good luck with the kitten, and good for you for not declawing!!!
