Well, I took Prince and Hermoine in for thier shots. I dont know what to do with King Prince. Even the vet said I'm doing all I can do. He still hasnt lost any significant weight. Lucky he isnt "obese" just overweight. He shocked us and about took the hand off of the helper who was holding him for his shots. He has never acted like that before. He is the sweetest fat cat you will ever met. The vet said not to worry about his reaction. Because he will be nine in September and that is consirder senior, they want me to bring him in for a full work up. The paper says CBC, urinalysis, radiograph, and general health profile. It would cost 179.64. We havent decided about doing it. It does seem like a waste of money on a prefectly healthy but overweight cat. But they wont do the teeth cleaning with out doing the senior profile and the cleaning is about the same amount.

We got an explaintion of the itching that Hermoine kept doing behind he ears. She had ear mites. She had to of gotten it from SPCA because Prince's ears are clean. The vet wanted us to bring Candy in to get her ears checked but Candy hates Hermoine and the two are never near each other. Besides that we have being watching Candy and she isnt itching(the number one sign) at her ears. Also, I held her and my husband did a check as best as we could at home and found nothing. I am now wishy washy about our vet. It seems they are trying to make every penny they can but then again, they did tell me not to get the leukemia shots for Prince and Hermione because they are indoor only cats and the risk of cancer from the shot? just wasnt worth it. Anyways, Hermione is healthy besides for that. She was really sleepy for about 18hours after her FVRCP and rabies shot but is fine now. Prince was just grumpy but is now fine and back to normal, too.

Candy was funny when we were putting Hermione and Prince in the kitty carriers. She look frighten that she was next. Then when she realized she wasnt going, too, she just sat and looked at us with her bright blue eyes wide open and swishing her tail. She stayed home with my husband who says he swore she was worried about us taking the other two away forever. He said that she was pacing at the door and pawing and meowing at it. Maybe she does really love the other two kitties. :)

I have always chosen not to do the blood work up as if there is anything bad and then the surgery cannot be done that is not good either. Tiger and Dusty never had any trouble and were older and Tiger had his teeth cleaned many times

I know you don't want to treat whats not there but, when I took one dog in for red ears and shaking her head, the vet said she has ear mites. My other dog was shaking her head, but her ears were not red. The vet didn't see her but said I could go ahead and put ear mite medicine in her ears. If one has them, they probally both did. Maybe you could call the vet about this. donna

We offer a "geriatric profile" where I work but it's not as extensive as what your vet does - we just do a mini-screening panel which give us a pretty good picture - it tests liver, kidneys and blood glucose tests.
