Entertaining - where should kitty go?

Hello,

I plan to have my book club to my house for a meeting very soon. It may be a sign of my being unsocial but I have not entertained at all before. I am usually home alone with kitty. My question is: where do I put kitty when all these people come over? Do I let her mingle with everyone and *possibly* try to get into their snack plates? Do I put her in the bedroom and let us have to hear her yowl the entire time? I would LIKE for her to stay out and it not be an issue - with her misbehaving OR with my guests disapproving but am not sure what the BEST thing might be in this situation. Any help?

I would just leave her and see what happens and then deal with it from there, she may take a look around and go lay down, wera her out good before they come!!!!

Hi,

Ideally you should have a single guest over a few times to see how comfortable your cat is with outsiders before trying out a group. This might not be practical if the book group is soon. Do you have any sense if your cat would be shy with strangers and hide? If so, a group would certainly be overwhelming and she would be happier in the bedroom. How many people are coming over? Do any of them have cats? Are there any allergic people in your group? You might keep your cat in the bedroom if it is a large group (more than 4) and have one or two cat loving people go into the bedroom to visit with her. If you are having any snacks that are dangerous to cat health, such as chocolate, without a doubt keep your kitty in the bedroom. If it is a small group, you might ask one person to come a bit earlier (someone who has a cat, preferably, or loves cats) and leave your cat out and see how she reacts before making a final decision for the evening.

One other matter is the front door. Is your kitty inclined to dash out the door? If so, that would be another reason to keep her in the bedroom.

Hi there!

IMO I would let her mingle. But then again, my cats are really good cats. They don't try to get your food, they just want to sit on your lap! Cynthia did have some good points I think. You never know what could happen if they aren't used to more than a couple of people. I have a couple that will just go off "to their room" if things get too loud or my DSD get to hyper.

Good luck with your book club BTW. :):)
