Leo had a grand-mal seizure today at about . e woke me up and Apollo And Andromeda were scared and started to hiss and growl at Leo. We put them back in the bathroom for the rest of the night as they seemed a bit upset after the seizure. Poor Leo. e curled up in a tight ball shortly after the seizure ended and I thought he was about to have a second. Thankfully he did not though. e is resting now on the bed and I will stay up with him for the rest of the night and keep a close eye on him.

Suzy,

Yes, Leo is an epileptic. He was a special needs cat I wanted to adopt. He was abused by his former owners, 4 paw declawed and electrocuted. He shortly began seizuring and they did little about it for a long time. The vet reports say he was having 1 to 10 grand-mals a day! They eventually decided to just return him to the shelter, claiming they no longer wanted him. (his original vet records show they complained to the vet several times that he does not act right). By the time he was at the shelter again (after 3 years with his original owners) he was placed on a huge dosage of Phenobarbital which pretty much stopped the seizures and all activity. Leo became depressed and stopped eating and he had to be forced fed. In the mean time his rear lets atrophied badly. That is when I adopted him. When he first came home with me his fur was brittle and oily and he was so sad. My vet and I played with his Phenobarbital dosage for 6 months to see how low he could be and not seizure. This has been his worst year with 3 grand-mals so far. The goal is to keep him to 1 every 6 months or less. Also, his legs never fully recovered and he back legs are a bit twisted and scrawny, so he walks funny. Also he literally jumps if any sudden sound happened (like you cough or sneeze or clink a dish). It is very sad to most people when they find out his story. To me it is a happy story since he now has a good home and is happy. He loves us very much. Donna says that I am his life. She says you can see it when he looks at me and that he always follows me everywhere.

Even sadder is I know who the original owner was. Since I work closely with the shelter he came from, the gave me his old vet records and info on condition that I never contact the old owners or vet. It was hard to not, but I upheld my end.

I think people that do things to animals should be killed! I am very vocal on this and would have no guilt feeling on pulling the plug on them, sickos!!!

Hugs to you and I'm sorry that Leo went thru another seizure- poor little guy. I'm glad to hear that Hamlet's skin irritation is clearing.
