Hi everyone

Ok first I feel like a little tattle tale because I'm ratting out my Husband.

He has this idea in his head that our cat, that we took off the street as a wee little girl is missing out on going outside in the summer(She's now two yrs).

Now the problem really is that we have alot of ferals all over probably her cousins and I know her mom is out there we got her spayed but she is not on any flea preventative and though she is up to date on her shots I'm reading about more viruses I don't think her shots covered. Basically I'm scared that now she will have felv or anything else I don't know about. She now scratching and I hope she doesn't have mites, our dog is scratching but she is on advantage so I don't understand what's up with her.

I'm just pissed because this was a long battle that I lost and now he see's that I was right but they are suffering. I just hate that he doesn't take my word for it. I have been working with animals for many years. I'm not a cat expert but I do try to follow new

findings in the medical community.

First I know I have to get them both to the vet which is in the works, but how do I get him to listen? or should I just stop dreaming.

I know it's such a pain when you can't convince someone you love how many dangers there are for them out there.

She's not allowed out anymore and now she's going crazy.

I feel so bad for her.

It's funny because we live in the basement and have a yard outside the windows so he did build a little outdoor space for her, and she just worked day and night to put a hole in it. That's how this all got started I bought a harness for her but we ended up not using it. She is terrified of leaving the apt through the front door but the window she loves. She really just hangs out right by the window and runs to it when we close it.

Well those days are over now I have to go to the vet to straighten this all out.

I just hope she didn't pick up anything.

Thanks

Your outdoor enclosure can be made with fencing, chicken wire or window screen. petproof.com will ups you as much or little screen as you need. Its guar. for two years. I've used it several years with alot of cats. Its held up perfectly. Also, just4cats.com has lots of pics of outdoor enclosures you can build, great place for ideas. donna

what you tell your husband is simply this, Cats live longer happier lives when they live indoors. This is a fact. They also stay playful longer. And yes there are dangers outside.

I lost a great cat when he was less than 2 years old when I was 12, and I've never forgotten it. I've also never let any of my cats out since.

Here is what cats "miss out on" when you keep them in:

- a multitude of diseases

- attacks from dogs or other cats

- fleas, ticks, worms, fungal infections

- wild animal attacks from coyotes, raccoons, badgers

- getting hit by cars

- reckless kids, and sick, twisted adults

- antifreeze, oil, gas, and other automobile fluids

- simply getting lost

This list could go on and on.

Just so you know, my Tasha was 6 and a half years old when I got her, and she was an outdoor cat with her previous owners. I wondered how she would adjust, but she's doing just fine. As long as she can look out a window and watch the world go by (and get her treats and catnip), she is a very happy kitty.

Ellie sat and watched the rain on the window all day yesterday! I think she would rather do that than be getting all wet!!
