Hi I'm Nikki and we just took in our first cat, Owen. He was a stray who basically adopted us. He lived outside all summer and we fed him when it seemed he was not going anywhere. Now that the temperature has dropped so much we decided to move him in and he loves it. My question is how to litter train him. He is about 18 months old and has lived most of that outside. We have a large covered litter box and it is in a corner in the bathroom. Until now I have just been putting him outside a few times a day to go to the bathroom and he has never had an accident in the house but it is really cold now and I don't want to risk something happening to him outside. Also, I don't want him to have an accident if we have to be out of the house and he is alone. I hope someone can help because I really want him to be a permanent member of our family and he has no desire to be outside. TIA

How kind of you to take in that dear sweet kitty! I'm sure Owen will know exactly what to do when it comes to using the litter pan. I've never had a cat who didn't know what one was for.

Since Owen was a stray, is he neutered? If not, I'd definitely get him neutered. This will avoid having him spray around the house - something you definitely don't want to have happen!

Best of luck with your new furry family member. It is always wonderful to hear such nice stories of people taking in strays - and keeping them strictly indoors! :D
