Claw Clipping

Just got some new furniture and I am trying to clip my cats claws. The way they act you'd think I was trying to take out their appendix with a warm spoon! You should hear the scary noises that come out of them when I am holding them on my lap trying to grasp a paw and clip! Wow it's so difficult. Has anyone ever tried those cat tranquilizers they sell at places like Petsmart? I am thinking of using those before I try to clip their claws because they are just not cooperating at all! Iri

I always do my trimming when my cats are asleep.
We have to be two to clip
Grabbing them while sleepy works well - You can usually get a few nails done and clipped before they realize what's happening. I always set them on my lap, their spine up against my stomach, left Wrist against their tummy (this helps you get control over them to keep them from wriggling). I gently squeeze the nail to extend it using my left hand, and clip the nail with my right hand. I use professional dog groomer clippers - the BEST investment. When I had the inexpensive ones from the pet stores, they acted like I was killing them, whereas these bigger ones give me much more control and prescision. My littlest one still squirms and acts terribly, but she is slowly getting better. It helps that I "bribe" her with treats for each paw I get done.
My friend is a professional dog and cat groomer and this is the method she taught me, and it works very well. Good luck!
