Just another group of problems for us...

Hi everyone. Looks like another one of my bimonthly updates and problems. *sigh*

Shortly after Copycat died we spotted an orange small cat outside (you may remember my mentioning that I thought it had Copycats head shape and body shape). He used to run when we saw us and only showed up a couple times a week throughout the summer. As the fall began to settle here he came on to the deck more and more and I decided to put Copycats old food dish and water dish out. The cat began to come on the deck more often and we named him Nova. He became very friendly and would roll on the deck. If I came out he would rub against me and talk to me. He obviously was/is not a feral. Then last week it was very cold here, so I went outside one evening when Nova was on the deck in the cup/bed and I picked him up and carried him to the shop. He began to panic a bit and hissed, but I made it inside with him. He was covered in burrs and mats all over. Some mats were so large and tight they were tearing off the flesh. We took him into the vet’s for standard FIV FLEV tests and check for basic problems. He was given the thumbs up and we took him home. We found he has flat worms (they were all over his stool! ICK) too. The vet ad I believe he was once owned and either abandoned or lost. Anyone who lets their cat become so badly matted either does not deserve it or really does not care. He is far to friendly to not be used to humans.

We brought him in yesterday to be neutered, have the mats shaved and be dewormed. He will come home today. He is such a friendly and beautiful cat, between 1 year and 18 months of age. He purrs all the time, loves to lay in my lap, loves to be pet and brushed too. Here are some pictures of Nova pre-neuter (aka I took them Saturday night in the shop).

That Nova is a beautiful boy. Bless you for taking him in. I hope you find a good home for him.

My furkids & I will send purrs of recovery for Appollo & Andromeda. I, too, think of little ^Ellie^ now when somebody's fur kid has surgery.

Oh {{{David}}} I'm so sorry Apollo and Andromeda aren't doing well. I will pray that it isn't FIP.

Nova is such a beautiful furboy.

Nova is beautiful. I believe he has found the perfect home!!! Could your cats have picked up an illness while at the clinic? Its strange both of them having troubles after their surgeries. My kitty, Precious honey bunny had a fever and quit eating a day or so after her spay, they gave her a b12 shot, steriod shot and I believe tetracycline. She was better by the next day. I hope 2005 will be a much better year for all of us. Don't give up hope, we are all praying for your sick kitties. I have a male kitty that has to be trapped in the next week or so to be neutered. I dread all of it. Donna

I am so terribly sorry to hear about all your kitty problems:>( I hope and pray they don't have FIP. I didn't even know what FIP was until this past summer when my beautiful Maine Coon kitten got it. The Vet drained his chest of fluid once and I brought him home to give him all the love and care I could until it got too hard for him to breathe again and he had to be put down. There are two kinds of FIP. One is the wet kind like my Bailey had and the other is where it attacks only one part of the body or one organ. These cats can live for quite a while if the organ attacked is not a vital organ. I have researched FIP and it is an awful disease with no cure! I have three other cats who lived and ate with Bailey and they did not get it. My Vet says it is not contagious. It is caused by a virus that goes bonkers and if they can't fight it off like most cats, it gets them. I will keep positive thoughts for your kitties. God Bless you!

Oh David, I am so very sorry to hear about poor Apollo and Andromeda. I will be praying hard for their quick recovery and that there is no FIP. I will also pray that you will have a healthy, happy kitty household in 2005.

Bless your heart for taking such good care of Nova! He's absolutely gorgeous! I wish I could take him myself. Please keep us posted on any potential new furparents for him.

I really empathize with you and I'm sending lots of hugs and purrs from me, Patches, Boots, Thomie, Misha, & Gracie.
