Does Your cat do this?

One of my cats, if I put food in front of her that she doesn't like, will turn her back to the plate and make motions with her feet as if to say "this smells / tastes like poo-poo so I am going to cover it up with some imaginary cat litter." My other cat doesn't do this but that is because she never met a plate of food she didn't like. I was just wondering if "covering the food with cat litter" motions are universal cat talk for "I don't like this food" or if it is just particular to this cat. Thanks! Iri

I have two cats out of 16 that does like your cat. One is worse than the other on this. She will not eat any food (can) that she has "covered" up. She also does this to some food plates after she has had enough. My outside dog covers her food bowl up with straw, leaves and dirt when she is through, I think thats the way wild animals do to save their leftovers for another time. Donna

Two of my cats will do that. I have even seen them do it to food they have eaten. I think it's because in the wild cats will cover their food for later if they don't finish it.

my cat ERNIE will do the same thing with his canned food if itis pate style. he loves chunk styles, but will make that motion if it is pate style. by the way, he's a totally indoor kitty, so there's nothing to cover it with.

Odd how their instinctual behavior continues even though it makes absolutely no sense! Iri

My mother's cat will do that with his food and it is to "save it" for later.
