Last week one of our farm cats developed an infection. For most we will just give them a shot of broad spectrum anti-biotics meant for small animals and hope for the best, but this one was special to ds. Since so many of ds's previous farm cats have died, I took pity on

On Think Like a Cat board, advice would be to a) do an introduction techinique which involves slowly allowing the cats to be around one another for only two-three minute increments so they get used to one another or b) keep the kitten in it's own room with litter box, food, water and a few toys. Let the kitten out every so often to roam the house but put Meme in a room while doing so. You'll get better advice over on the Think Like a Cat cause they deal with these kinds of questions and problems all the time: http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-ptthinkcat

Ya know, sometimes I think cats just need their time to get over stuff. I know people will say that it's just behavioral stuff, but the very first year my dad started taking care of my grandparents' dog during the months they were in Florida, Amber would not have anything to do with me. She likes to be with me and get attention and will sit on my lab even when we're outside. We started taking care of Missy (the dog) in December and Amber would NOT want me to hold her or to snuggle or anything for the whole month. She would come up to me and be petted, but would generally keep her distance - about 3-5 ft. away from us at all times. She does the same thing when my dad cleans out the flower beds around the house and throws out all her "stashed" kills. It's like she's put out and just needs time to get over it. LOL

Although, I do think at least part of your problem is that the cats just need to get used to each other.

You could give Cloud a lot attention, just don't do it front of Meme right now.
