I am curious if it is expensive and painful for the cat?

Thanks!

Hi,

The cost of having your kitty's teeth cleaned varies from vet to vet, so check with yours to see what they charge. Kitties are anethetized to have the procedure done and it shouldn't hurt.

However, and this is just my opinion, I don't think that it is a procedure that should be done "just because".

Just to give you an example of charges - we charge $160 for the anesthesia, cleaning/polishing, antibiotics

Thank you!

I think I'll have the vet check her teeth next visit. I have noticed bad breath that is worse than the normal cat breath. But, its not everyday.

Maybe she's eating something outside thats giving her yuck mouth! LOL!

Thanks for all the info!

I think my kitty would let me clean her teeth. I have an appt for the other kitty next week for her annual vaccinations, so I'll see if he can look at Tigg's mouth while I'm there.

Thanks again!

You can clean your cat's own teeth -- just as a possibility. My vet sold me some CET cat toothpaste which tastes like chicken -- hopefully making them tolerate it more. There are cat toothbrushes, but one vet told me to use a scrap of hose wrapped around your forefinger (hose you're about to retire). I still have to do it, but it sounds like a good idea...you have to sit behind your cat because they're easier to handle from that position. That's the position you take when you cut their nails, or give them medicine.
