Cat clawing couch- HELP

I need to stop my cat from scratching the couch. For some reason he just started, we've had him 4 yrs and never had problem. I heard about vinegar, I tried that and it's not working. Not sure how often have to use vinegar. I'm guessing once it dries the smell goes away. Do I need to spray on there every day? I also heard 2 sided tape, but I can't find a wide enought roll, I found normal size 2 sided tape and it kept coming off. The thing is I never see him doing it, clearly he is cause I can see the damage he's doing to the couch. He must do it when we're not home or sleeping. Please help me, I can not afford to buy another couch nor do I want my couch looking like crap. Oh and I would want ideas that don't include declawing.

Thanks
Tami

Hi Tami,

The best thing I have found for furniture clawing is a spray called Feliway.
