Need help with my new kitten

First of all thank you all for being here. I go to other boards and took a chance that there would be one like this. So here goes with the question. I have a new kitten. He is six weeks old, very small. In our home is another cat. He is two years old and very big. He is not happy with the little guy. At first he sort of followed teuscher, kittens name, and he would grab hold of him, bite at him, it did not seem to hurt him but then I got worried and would not let the big cat near teuscher. We have been paying attention to the big cat, martini. I have to keep the two apart right now and was wondering has anyone here, and I am sure someone has, had a new kitten into a home where there is another cat. what did you do, and not do? Any help here is so welcome, I want the best for both cats and more so for the kitten as he is mine and takes the place of a cat I lost over a year ago. The big cat is my grandsons, he and his parents live with us, so you see thses two cats have to get on. The dogs are no problem, they love the kitten, the bird just thinks the kitten is fun to watch, but martini, well he did lick him last night and seemed to be warming up when he took a snap bite at the little guy...oh dear, I am going on and on. Just worried I guess. I am at work and will come back here this afternoon at home, and read up on the posts. Look forward to making new freinds and getting some good points on what to do. thanks Diann

thank you so much and I now feel so much better. I take the little guy to the vet today first check up. I guess it all takes time...lol I just wish it would hurry up, I want them to be friends, I love them both and never thought I could. I always had dogs growing up and now I have both... love my kitten so much. I will check back in and let you know how things go. I am sure I will have many more questions as the weeks go by. diann

It sounds like your kitties are getting along good to me. Especially, if the adult was licking the little one. That is a very good sign. Kittens are pretty hard to resist.

Vet said he has not seen a kitten so young in such great shape. No worms, no ear mites, nothing, he is healthy and happy. Only just over one pound in weight and growing fast. He is getting better about being around the big cat and the big guy is nice one second and a little bent out of shape the next. I only worry when I see the big guys ears lay flat back. I move kitten out of the way then. My baby sleeps curled up by my head and when I move he lets out a small noise as if to let me know he is there and not to roll on him. He is purr o matic also. lol I just love him...Diann

It sounds to me like they are doing the normal getting to know each other, see who is the boss type thing. I agree with what I read others have posted I would watch them and not let it go on for to long or let them get carried away. I have 6 cats and have brought 4 of them in as kittens. They are all friends now but I was worried at the begining. THe older cats would seem so rough I thought it wouldn't work but alittle later they were chasing each other, playing together, sleeping together.
