we have never been on a vacation with the kids. We have gone to the lakes and things like that but never a real vacation. Well my sil wants us to go to Minneapolis this spring and go to Valley fair and the Zoo(awesome zoo) ete ete. I never have gone as hate and do not trust anyone to watch my pets and would WORRY the whole time! Well I am thinking there are a lot of pet services in town where you leave your pets at home and they come in so many times a day. One is owned by a girl I went to school with and she also works at our vets office. Do you think I would even beable to have any fun??

IF YOU KNOW THE PERSON AND HAVE HER COME IN AND MEET YOUR ANIMALS YOU CAN GO AND RELAXE. I TELL YOU THAT AND I HAVE A BAD TIME LEAVEING MY ANIMALS.

I think if you had her come over and meet the pets and/or really researched everything about it, you'd feel more comfortable. What about doing a pre-vacation trial where you go someplace for the weekend (or just overnight, spending at least a full day someplace)and have her take care of your furkids and see how that goes for both your furkids and you? Of course, this depends on how expensive my idea is and if it works for you. ;-)

I don't even live with Amber yet and I'm terrified of leaving her alone to go to school or work or something. LOL What if something happens to her? What if she gets scared? What if she flips out and rips my furniture up? and so on. Totally irrational but they're kind of like babies. While they can take care of themselves to a degree, they can't tell you what's wrong or fully protect themselves, ya know? I'm just worrywart.

I think that's great you are going to finally go on vacation. I think if the pet sitter is willing to call you with an update or you can call her a few times, you will do just fine.

I agree w/all the ideas everybody else had. Use the person you know, have her come over ahead of time & meet & interact w/the gang. And arrange to talk to her on the phone, every day if that's what you need, while you're gone. A weekend or 1-night trial run sounds like a good plan, too. It would be really good for you to get over this fear. It wouldn't be fair to your family for you to never be willing to go away. Animals do OK for vacations, esp. if they stay in their own homes. And they're so glad to see us when we get home!

I've heard of folks who leave taped messages for their pets, & leave unwashed clothes lying around for them to sleep with & have your scent.

I just think I will feel awful going to bed whereever I am with them home!!! When I go somewhere Scooby sits by the window the whole time and waits!

Well, yes, dogs may be a little different. I haven't had a dog since I was a kid. Scooby's not a go-where-his-people-go dog? You couldn't take him along?

We would be in a motel and then out all day so i would not want to leave him in the motel alone

What about taking him to someone's house so that someone is constantly with him? I know it's hard to find trustworthy people though. For all the headaches, I *am* glad that there are relatives close enough by so that they can check on/feed Samantha and Amber when my dad goes on vacation. Or perhaps this woman you know knows of a very good kennel you could take him too. It might be a tad expensive, but at least he wouldn't be all alone. From what I've seen and researched, good kennels should give dogs plenty of room to play and plenty of interaction to keep them happy. Or MAYBE this woman could be there when you leave and keep Scooby busy so he won't sit at the window and wait for you to return. Not to toot my own horn, but that sounds like it would probably work and be the easiest.
