please help ! someone !!
to make a long story short, right now we are living temporarily somewhere they do not allow cats, only our dog is allowed, so my friends ( my boss and his wife) said they will keep our cats in their 2nd floor den until we get a place they offered and actually took them out of the shelter they were staying in, well the den is worth 100,000- and he has 9 cats of his own so he understands normal wear and tear ( which to me is toys all over and kitty litter smell until i get there every night to clean it) i noticed ( and so did he ) my cats (which they have done at my old house) are scratching the wood on the door jams !!!! I do not have tons of $$$ to throw away so we put gaffers tape on them for now but it is impossible to tape the stairs (wooden sideS) and I know itll be a matter of time until they scratch on the stairs again also, he and his wife put alot of $$ and work into this basement and they are more understanding than they should be but I do NOT want my cats destroying their home on my $ expense $ !!! theyve told me not to worry about it and that well paint over it but I refuse to let this go on, we are in the process of looking for a new permanent home and do not want to run into the same problem!
anyone have any advice ? we have clipped their nails, bought them DOZENs of scratching posts and rubbed catnip on the scratching posts, the newest thing we tried last night was putting wood and cardboard boxes around those areas where they were scracthing, so that they will scratch them instead of the door sides. well it somehwat is working but its only been 24 hrs.. but it is still no guarantee. if I was home with them all day , like I used to be , I could spray them with the water bottle and clap my hands but I am at work (and do not even live in the same house ), which still didnt help because as soon as I would leave they would scratch on everything ANYWAY
I cannot afford nor want to declaw them and the GEL CAPS they make for them are IMPOSSIBLE to put on!! and expensive.
Please help- i love them SO but...
my cats are going to break my piggy bank...:(

Hi Oooocassiesmamaoooo.
Feliway is WONDERFUL for scratching...spray it daily on the areas they are scratching and soon (at my house, it's immediate!) they will stop scratching inappropriate places.
thank yuo both SOOO much ! we will try all of the suggestions we are stressing out over this and you guys have helped ! tonight we will try and i will keep you "posted" lol
yes we are truly blessed knowing that are babies are safe instead of in a shelter without a home :( they originally were in a shelter and we were allowed to visit them and if we donated money every week they would hold them til we got a place but then the HEAD lady of the shelter found out and wanted us to sign something saying we give them full rights and we cried and cried and searched for places until my boss and his wife called and said go get them and bring them here, we see what this is doing to you and your husband, please let us take them until you get a place they will be safe warm and sound here :)
these people are truly Godsends !!
They have lots of $$$ so there is no gift we could possibly buy, she is very picky and he has everything he could ever want lol but if anyone has any ideas of what we can do for them please let me know :)
I like this board alot ! very nice people here,, rare to find lol

Well, if they already have 9 cats, I'm sure they could always use food and treats for their furkids!
