Tasha/Bailey update!

We discovered yesterday that Bailey is already big enough to jump out of his safe box, and the sides are probably at least 2 and a half feet high! So we decided he has "graduated" to being able to start freely roaming the apartment (still supervised though, of course). With that, I felt he was ready for a face to face meeting with Tasha (up until then, we were holding on to him every time he tried to run up to her).

So we watched (as nonchalantly as possible), as Bailey casually walked up to Tasha. She hissed at him, and he actually backed up a couple of steps. Then he tried again, and she hissed again. Each time she hissed, he backed up less and less. Eventually, he got close enough for her to swat him - and she did just that! BUT, she pulled her paw back at the last possible instant and didn't actually make contact - so she was clearly not wanting to hurt him, just give him a warning! It worked, and Bailey finally turned and walked away.

As he played at the other end of the room, Tasha continued her normal behaviours. She flopped on her back and chirped at us when we looked at her -- doing all her normal things. Occasionally she watched Bailey, even from her laying-on-her-back position, generally seeming very indifferent to him. In time, she MAY just become his friend. LOL.

I'm so happy that she doesn't seem interested in hurting him! And I'm also happy that Bailey is smart enough to know when he's been given a warning! Natural instinct is just so amazing sometimes - even at just over 6 weeks old, he knows when someone means business! LOL!!!

Sounds like everything is going to work out, thank goodness. I have been fostering 4 3-4 week old kittens several days now, its hard work and messy! Don't you want 4 more??? I'll be glad to deliver them! Donna

Four more? Tasha, not to mention my BF, may have some serious issues with that! LOL!

Bless you for looking after those kitties though! They must be so cute!

Absolutely! I'm so glad my BF let me bring him home. LOL. And now he loves the little guy just as much as I do. :)

They are cute, 3-4 weeks old. Their mother was either run over or shot. I got two different stories. They were on a street. I will be responsible for finding them homes. They are a blue/grey male, tabby w/white long haired male, a calico, and a grey calico. They are really too young to play much, its a full time job feeding them and keeping them clean. My ds's gf found a 5 week old black male kitten last week, well he ended up here. He is all over the house, play fighting with a 6 mos. old cat, has his fav sleeping places etc...loves the dogs, as in to pop them on the head! I have to keep him away from the other kittens as much as possible, he is beating the mess out of them!
Most of my cats get used to new kitties, esp. kittens pretty easily. Donna

It sounds like everything is going fine with Tasha and Bailey.

Poor little Bailey though - he wants to be friends with her sooo bad! After she swatted at him, he kind of sat there for a minute, not quite sure what to do next. His little face looked heartbroken! But then he got up and trotted off toward his toys and he was fine. LOL.
