It's Vet Visit Day!

I'm not looking forward to this. I expect lots of yowelling, shaking, hissing, struggling, vomiting...and my checkbook ending up $200 lighter. All this, and I live 2 minutes away from the vet! I have backup. Mom is going with me as co-cat-wrangler.

Does anyone else have issues like this, when it's vet time? I'd take the 2 of them seperately, but it just spreads the stress over 2 days, and then both cats vomitted about 15 times each, after their appointments. When they go together, they only vomit about 15 times total afterwards. Ahh, the carpet scrubbing. I will be having one fun Wednesday evening.

It's not quite that bad for my two but they also get very frightened when it's time to see the vet and I have to trick them into their carriers. LOL

Wow, my two boys get very scared(translation Zachary's heart rate and blood pressure were so off the chart the last time they thought he was hypertensive) but he's not. Checked it at home and it's perfectly normal!

Anyway, in addition to Rena's tips you might consider putting some Rescue Remedy in their water for a day or so before you take them. This just helps to calm their nerves. Also one thing I always do is to spray the inside the carrier with Feliway spray to hopefully ease them into the carrier.

Good luck,

Lynn

I've thought about taking them for rides before, but I've never actually done it. Part of the reason was that in the past, I had to carry them out of the apartment, across the parking lot, and over to my car. Huge trip. The new condo has an attached garage, so it won't be as big of an ordeal to get them out of the house. Also, the vet used to be 10 minutes away. When I moved, I moved across town, making the vet closer. (and making my parents, grandparents, aunt & uncle all closer, too.) So maybe the shorter ride to the vet will help, as well.

I've not heard of Rescue Remedy before. What is it? Do you think they'd have it at Pet Supplies Plus, or PetsMart? I have a PSP in town, but there's a PM near where I work. I have to go to the PM to get Feliway. :)

Here's some info on Rescue Remedy. I doubt that Petsmart would have it. I get it at Wild Oats, Whole Foods, or my natural health pet food store. I use it for my kitties anytime they are in a stressful situation. Typically you mix it in their water, but my kitties eat only canned food and therefore don't drink a lot of water so I mix it in their food. Still works great and that way I know for sure they are getting the dosage.

Please see the link below for a great article on using Rescue Remedy with animals.

Hope this helps!

How did it go, Noelle?

I don't have much trouble w/my 2. I only take them 1 at a time. If I think of it, I put the carrier out ahead of time, for them to check out. I still have to kind of shove them into it. LOL. They each yell a little on the way. Unfortunately, it's about a 20 minute drive. I only ever had one throw up once, & that was right after I took the turn into the vet's driveway too fast b/c I was late. LOL. Once or twice, somebody has pooped in the carrier.

When we get there, I have to drag them out of the carrier. When the vet is done, they can't scramble into the carrier fast enough. LOL

They both have serious white coat syndrome. The vet can get away w/all kinds of things I could NEVER get away with.
