As if bringing home another cat last year wasn't enough. Which Badness has barely forgiven me for a year later. This weekend I brought home a dog. Heeheee
I have been dog shopping for a long time and I finally found one. Like there weren't plenty over the past year, but I just couldn't pass up this little girl. But you can read about her story on the Puppies board.
The cats have been a hoot. I think Badness has taken out a hit on me. She is mad at the world!!! I could I bring this ill-mannered, noisey brute into her quiet, peaceful home? How dare I? But I asked Badness if I could get another kitten and she said she would rather have a dog so I took her up on it! ;)
Badness is down in the kitchen, where the puppy is confined, as we speak. Right in the middle of the floor. Its her house. Puppy must learn that I guess. Badness swatted the puppy with claws out and the puppy let out a yelp like she was being killed. But she was fine. And the cat made her point.
The other two, Scrappy and Tucker, have been hanging out upstairs. So much for Tucker being a big, tough guy. What a wimp!!! All the cats are bigger than this puppy who is already 5 months old! She is a doxie/chi cross. I think they are upset more by the noise of the puppy. She whines quite a bit. Very upsetting in a usually quiet household, you know.
I made a mistake though that set back the adjustment period quite a bit. I had the pup of the leash a brief second and she discovered how fun it was to chase cats. I am really working with her on that one. She has to know that in this house, the cats rule. No ifs, ands, or buts. So now the puppy is confined to the kitchen behind a puppy gate so the cats can observe and watch as much (or little) as they want.
I think everyone will be fine given enough time. We all need time to adjust. I am giving the cats extra lovin's so they will feel safe.

Uh-oh, you sound like you're in deep dodo with the furkids.
I had a serious play session with the kitties last night to soothe their feelings. We all got high on catnip. After that, Tucker actually came downstairs and studied the puppy for a little while.
I think the kitties will come around. They aren't acting as if this was another cat in their territory. She is just an ill-mannered beast that needs to be trained.
