How did you choose your cat's name?

Since I'm planning on getting another cat, I'm contemplating names. How did everyone choose the names for their furbabies?

My first cat, who still lives with my parents, was all sleek and black. I named her Sascha, because it sounded elegant, like she was. When I got Annie 4 yrs later, I was sticking with the theme of Russian-type names. So Annie is really Anastasia. It was just such a long name to use on a deaf cat. So she quickly became Annie. Chalimar was named by her SPCA foster mom. I liked it, so I didn't change her name.

Well I knew I was getting 2 female kittens. I was looking at name list to inspire me. I saw Marlee and thought I like that. The I was reading a book with my 7th graders at school and there was a character named Hannah.. I decided that the 2 went well together. So my daughter chose who got what name. My gray and white kitten is Marlee or Miss Marlee as she is known and the other is a tortie that is black and orange name Hannah better known as Hannah Banana. They are all of 8 weeks....We are having so much fun...

Ok, you asked so here's how I named my boys.

Gabriel came into my life at a time when I needed him as much or more than he needed me. It was a very dark time in my life and he was just placed in my path. So I called him my "little angel boy", hence the name Gabriel as that is the name of one of the angels in the bible. Gabriel actually means "man of God".

When I adopted Zachary it was later the same year, I wanted him to have a name with meaning too. The poor little guy had a rough start in life as his momma was sick and they had to take the litter from her sooner than they should have and he had to be on antibiotics for a gastrointestinal problem at such an early age. In spite of all of it he was a happy boy and didn't seem phased by it. So I named him Zachary which means "remembered by God".

I know seems lame, but all of my pet's names have always had a special meaning to me.

Cyduck came with his name; it was the name bestowed upon him at the foster home when he was born.

We tend to name them based on their looks.

Tasha already came with her name. Her previous owners had had her for over 6 years with that name, and she answered well to it, so I saw no sense in changing it. Frankly, now I can't imagine her as anything else. LOL.

I decided on Bailey because I've always had a fondness for Bailey's Irish Cream. I rolled the name around in my head for a day or so, then suggested it to DBF and he thought it was great. One of my good friends in Ontario has a Bailey of her own, but he was named after Donovan Bailey because he was such a good little runner. LOL - I guess that could apply to my Bailey too!

Miss Moxie's name came from 3 things.

1. She had the moxie to bust out of the cardboard carrier on the way home from the shelter.

2. There's a Canadian band I like called Moxy Fruvous.

3. She was very sick when I got her, & I had to give her aMOXYcillin. It's a bright pink liquid. She's a fighter, & we both ended up w/pink stuff all over us. :o)

Before that, I had Bonnie & Clyde. They were littermates, so I wanted pair names. I had it down to Lewis & Clark o Bonnie & Clyde. But Clark didn't seem like a good name for a girl, so I went with B&C.

Before that, there was Spot. He was striped, not spotted. And he was a cat, not a dog. Thus, the name. LOL.
